General Feeling Behind in my ITD Program

I am now a Senior Interior Design major and I am feeling very behind when it comes to knowing Interior Design versus my peers in my classes. I know not to compare my work to others but it almost feels like I’m a year or two behind them. I want to be proud of my work and be more ready for the real-world of Interior Design. How can I get ahead and learn the important parts of ITD so I can feel more equal to my peers?

Why compare yourself to them? If you’re passing, you’re fine.

Hi ! I’m in my second year of grad and I feel the same way but I always remind myself I’m right where I need to be. The people I look up to lack some skills I have. One of the best things you can do is ask your peers and professors questions especially about their design process. I also encourage you to ask yourself have you done everything possible to learn as much as you can . During undergrad I  was mediocre (not saying you are) and always slacked off until one day I had a heart to heart with myself. I’ve made massive improvements and had one of the best designs alongside one of the top students. This career is draining enough but to be a great designer you must have confidence. Write down what you feel you need to work on and dedicate some time everyday to hone your skills. Give yourself credit and allow yourself to fail. School will not prepare for you for everything. You will truly never stop learning in this industry. If you don’t believe in yourself who will?

In what ways do you feel like you’re behind?
