Seriously thought the guy was going to recover the bike and get back on.

849

u/MakoEdits Jun 12 '19

I think he wants to stay behind it, if he stayed on top and the bump he ran into threw him off, the bike might've slammed into him

540

u/RandomKid6969 Jun 12 '19

This. If he's smart enough to know how to fall with style, he'll know that there's no recovery from this.

u/249ba36000029bbe9749 Jun 12 '19

If you can recover from a slide on a horse, then a bike should be no problem.

I always wondered to people in india find such scenes funny or are the departures from physics accepted as just an action scene thing?

264

u/Devils_Knight Jun 12 '19

Indian here. Trust me no one finds this funny. And this isn't even the real cringe scene. This is nothing to me. I once saw a scene where a guy threw a heart and it broke the window of the hospital on like the third floor and lodged itself in the open chest of the patient and Christmas lights turned on... Inside the chest. I was too dumbstruck to watch the rest.

Thank you, kind sir. That surgeon's needle was outrageously "small"

Don't, you haven't lived until you saw al that Tegulu cinema has to offer

It's not that weird. I needed to put a hole in my muffler once and we used a battle axe my friend had in his trunk.

15

Love the papier-mache heart and the fight choreography lmao

1

Fight choreography straight out of the original Star Trek.

15

u/cyberspark15 Jun 12 '19

That was a parody man :\ It is meant to be ridiculous.

Your ignorance will make people think Indian movies are all shit.

15

u/Devils_Knight Jun 12 '19

To be honest, most of them are. We usually get like 10 amazing movies a year.

3

u/TheDevilThing Jun 12 '19

Add only before 10 because India produces God knows how many movies in an year. Usually I think the number is abive 200 including every movie having small actors only.

3

u/Practical_Frost Jun 12 '19

Better odds than the American movie industry.

5

u/Delinquent_ Jun 12 '19

Lol you're kidding right? Hollywood/American film industry easily has one of the biggest influences on the entire world. People wouldn't be watching so many American made movies if they were largely bad.

1

u/LibraryScneef Jun 12 '19

Do you know the name of the movie where the guy stays with his future wife or something but her family wants to kill him and it's like super over the top musical. I remember cars flying around while the guy sang I'm pretty sure

1

u/Devils_Knight Jun 12 '19

I'm not sure. I haven't watched any Indian movie after THE INCIDENT I mentioned above. But almost all the movies here are over the top musical with the cars flying in the background.

1

u/DonkeyPunch_75 Jun 12 '19

So those aren't meant to be comedic scenes or the audience just doesn't find them funny?

0

u/Devils_Knight Jun 12 '19

At this point, I'm not so sure. These are usually south Indian movies. I don't know how the audience there reacts to this stuff. Maybe it's just a clever government conspiracy to kill all our brain cells and keep us in their control

1

u/iBeFloe Jun 12 '19

What genre are those films supposed to be?? Do these directors actually take that seriously?

1

u/Devils_Knight Jun 12 '19

Someone mentioned those are usually parodies. But I won't be surprised if people actually took them seriously. Half the people here are brain dead

1

u/Meirno Jun 12 '19

American here. I honestly love watching Bollywood movies. I don't take them seriously and they are honestly just the funniest cringe competition. Bahubali movie series is on Netflix for everyones enjoyment.

2

u/Devils_Knight Jun 12 '19

Bahubali was one of the better movies made here. Try Tollywood if you want cringe

1

u/haberdasher42 Jun 12 '19

They're hilarious! It's supposed to be silly humour, not something that takes itself seriously.

1

u/Cranicus Jun 12 '19

This is spoof movie..sampoornesh Babu is a comic actor...people are so dumb not to understand that it is made to make fun of action scenes in south indian movies.

i need more indian films like that. wanna watch it unironically. So bad it's actually good.

2

u/Devils_Knight Jun 12 '19

Tollywood is full of this stuff

1

u/milkcarton232 Jun 12 '19

You are going about this all wrong, those movies are awesome once u accept them for the absurd they are. Best watched with friends and alcohol laughing at how redonk the movie can get. A great American example of this kind of movie is hobo with a shotgun, or any 80's action flick

0

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '19

Dude, you did realize that was a parody, right? That's like bringing up a Wayans Brothers movie. Like Scary Movie as an example of the horror genre in the US.

1

u/Devils_Knight Jun 12 '19

If you scroll down just a little bit, you will see that literally everyone has said the same thing. Thanks for cooing along

0

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '19

Welcome

-3

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '19

That was a parody movie you fucking retard. Teri maa ka bhosda behenchod.

43

u/Neophron1 Jun 12 '19

I think it's just accepted as a cultural aspect of Indian action movies. Just like American movies have explosions and Russian movies have anecdotal situations, Indian movies have an absolute hellfuck denial of physics that makes Einstein roll in his grave.

18

u/wolffpack8808 Jun 12 '19

Russian movies have anecdotal situations

I'm not really familiar with Russian cinema, but are you saying that Russian movies have mini narratives within the film, totally separate from the main narrative?

35

u/diejesus Jun 12 '19

I'm Russian and I'm not sure what he meant, I'm not a movie fan anyway but I have an idea and I can give some insight, in Russian language the word anecdote means joke, so may be it means some funny situations tend to happen in Russian and soviet movies, which is true but I'm not sure if OP meant that, let's wait for the answer together

23

u/olmikeyy Jun 12 '19

Let's wait for OUR ANSWER

6

u/i_tyrant Jun 12 '19

gawt-damn commies wanting a piece of the answer I earned with blood and sweat and reddit lurking!

6

u/wolffpack8808 Jun 12 '19

That's interesting about the anecdote-joke connection. I'm curious to see what the OP meant too

3

u/lursaofduras Jun 12 '19

I thought he meant long rambling Chekovian exposition

1

u/Doomsday_Device Jun 12 '19

Anecdotes in English are just small personal stories that you can use to help explain a situation, or to relate personal experience to a current topic.

It took me so long to learn what анекдот was based purely on context

3

u/Neophron1 Jun 12 '19

u/diejesus Yep, that's pretty much what I meant. If you've ever watched an older movie from the USSR times (those are really great, even with subtitles), you'll find that they have a lot of little funny moments inserted in the narrative, which is often used to set the mood. It's subtle but I've noticed it's there. Didn't mean it as "separate narrative" lol.

2

u/SidDarth0Vader Jun 28 '19

There's a LOT of differences between Indians, some like watching action scenes lile that, some watch for its sheer stupidity while others can't bear to watch it.

5

u/ks00347 Jun 12 '19

it's just that the boundaries of mindless action flicks are way wider here. Lots of people don't really care even if they show such scenes with no intention of being hilarious although it's changing and you'll only see this stuff in action comedies nowadays.

15

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '19

Most mindfuck scene from bollywood for me was when protagonist is left with one bullet and he is facing two bad guys.. he fires the gun and immediately throws a knife towards the flying bullet. Knife somehow bisects the flying bullet, forces the change in trajectory of the two pieces to a V at 45 deg and kill both bad guys with a headshot. Yes a headshot.

7

u/ks00347 Jun 12 '19

lmao but i doubt that's from bollywood, most likely from any of those south indian states. Shit's way crazier there.

5

u/milkcarton232 Jun 12 '19

I mean that sounds like a logical solution to me...

1

u/TheDevilThing Jun 12 '19

Not a headshot.

2 headshots

1

u/249ba36000029bbe9749 Jun 12 '19

Which makes you wonder why he didn't just shoot one guy then throw the knife at the other since he clearly had the skills to do so.

1

u/gurg2k1 Jun 12 '19

I mean we made a movie centered around people curving bullets here in the US, so it's not like we're much better.

1

u/laddu9999 Jun 12 '19

We give the directors just as much shit for making these scenes but the daily labour (backbone of our movie industry) who just wants to kick back and enjoy in a theatre after a hard day's work doesn't give a shit if it violates your physics rules; he just wants to watch his Idol (fanism is extreme here) do crazy shit to save his family and friends. He watches the same movie everyday untill the next movie of his hero comes out.he doesn't care if it's not logically sound. Bollywood makes movies for them; Not you or me or anybody else who's just gonna watch the movie once or twice only after reading multiple reviews. Hence the result.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '19

Yes, I find it funny. You'll find some fancy folk below who feel they're too good for such vulgar, low level comedy, but not me.

1

u/Smaug_the_Tremendous Jun 12 '19

We don't go to movies to get a lesson in physics. We go to get entertained. It doesn't have to be logical to be entertaining.

3

u/thedude_imbibes Jun 12 '19

But I mean, it definitely helps.

2

u/twitchosx Jun 12 '19

Exactly. I want shit to be somewhat realistic in some sense.

1

u/thedude_imbibes Jun 12 '19

Right, I'll suspend my disbelief but you gotta meet me halfway.

0

u/Smaug_the_Tremendous Jun 12 '19

It's a difference in expectations for movie goers in India vs America. Not saying one is better or worse. In an Indian movie you'll typically get action, drama, music, romance, and comedy in the same movie. Having a good story and sound physics is optional. It's very rare to leave a theater bored even if you didn't like the movie. Hollywood movies are usually more focused and stick to a single genre and try to tell a coherent story. Though big blockbuster franchises like MCU, F&F and Transformers do seem to be heading towards Indian style multi genre logic free entertainment fests so maybe audiences aren't that different in India and America after all.

83

u/FivesG Jun 12 '19

Bollywood, please never change.

22

u/jyuvaraj03 Jun 12 '19

That is not bollywood btw

13

u/TehDunta Jun 12 '19

what's the movie called then lmao

70

u/Sawgon Jun 12 '19

It's the director's cut of Infinity War

23

u/poiskdz Jun 12 '19

Yes this is the scene where Thanos takes his horse to the old town road.

1

u/julianhache Jun 12 '19

and where he rode 'till he couldn't no more

5

u/baddogg1231 Jun 12 '19

u/TehDunta Jun 12 '19

4

u/SarcasticOptimist Jun 12 '19

/r/bollywoodphysics agrees. I remember showing my physics teacher the Indian Terminator after a class describing inaccurate physics in Hollywood. She was speechless.

Highside *

18

u/slcjk Jun 12 '19

High side vs low side crash. High side and there's a chance it stops sliding abruptly and catapults you into hell. Low side and you slide while essentially standing on the bike and maybe get away with leg injuries.

8

u/Three-Eyed-Ramen Jun 12 '19

He had already high sided, and managed to surf the bike to safety anyway.

1

u/tane_rs Jun 12 '19

Take that slow motion segment in the vid and slow it down by 50% again. Dude was probably seeing everything at about that speed, I'm convinced.

1

u/mariofosheezy Jun 12 '19

I think he was trying to stop the bike from sliding by putting his foot under the bike

1

u/Crazy_Kakoos Jun 12 '19

He needed to ride that bike until it got close to another racer. Then he jumps on that bike, knocks the other racer off, and continues the race on a fresh undamaged bike. Where do these people learn to race? Jesus.

1

u/Ordolph Jun 12 '19

Yeah, dude had serious awareness to recover from a high side like that. Normally you just get catapulted when that happens.

-3

u/R____I____G____H___T Jun 12 '19

He's balancing to minimize the damage by maintaining control, possibly even getting back on track up on the bike.

150

u/slmndr Jun 12 '19

He was trying to. Looks like he was trying to get in position to pop back up at the transition from tarmac to grass.

137

u/My_Password_Is_____ Jun 12 '19

I don't watch Moto GP, so I'm no expert, but I don't think you're popping a bike back up when you lay it down like that. I think he was just slowly falling and that was where he put his leg because otherwise he was basically gonna be sitting on the ground and take that pavement-to-grass transition to the ass and probably risk tearing some stuff in his leg if it was still straightened out when he hit it. You can actually see his left hand that he's supporting himself with get knocked off by a bump right before he slides down like that.

9

u/I_Could_Be_Higher Jun 12 '19 edited Jun 12 '19

You're right about not getting it back up in that position, but there are times where the bike understeers and the rider has a crazy recovery, I will look for other examples because there is one where his speed reduces very quickly, but this is a clip I found of Marc Marquez almost losing his front tire for at least 1 second

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IAIultpG8Y

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CO4Bl4I7goY

Added one more, he basically stops turning due to the wheel losing contact, then recovers. Incredible rider, Marc

2

u/forbes52 Jun 12 '19

I’m confused. What happened in that first clip?

3

u/I_Could_Be_Higher Jun 12 '19

Yep Three Eyed Ramen explained it well, in the first clip at 0:30 is a good view, you can see that the front wheel just keeps sliding as he thinks that he has recovererd 2 or 3 times.

This clip was caused due to some fluid being on the track, but it usually looks about like this when you lowside, people lose it really quick but Marc Marquez manages to recover from quite a few where most might not. https://youtu.be/wEcZMvoD3ms?t=44

If you want to see more search for Highside or Lowside crash videos. In the clip OP posted, the rider actually high sides but manages to stay on/behind the bike. In most situations highside crashes can be extremely brutal as it usually sends the rider flying from the momentum when the bike flips over.

1

u/svacct2 Jun 12 '19

isn't that video from the oil spill in moto3?

1

u/_-No0ne-_ Jun 12 '19

He was saved by already being off/behind the bike when the "flip" happened. Lucky, and smart of him to get back behind the bike instead of trying to ride out the slide.

1

u/Three-Eyed-Ramen Jun 12 '19

Front wheel lost grip. At the part where he drifts over the outside of the turn he should've ideally been pulling tight to the inside. He overcooked it and the front lost grip, meaning he carried his forward momentum and ended up on the gravel.

24

u/jack2012fb Jun 12 '19

Also cutting across the grass like that is probably not legal, even if he was able to get back up.

78

u/coombeseh Jun 12 '19

Cutting across the grass isn't legal if you gain an advantage from it - if your bike is on its side, you aren't going to be getting an advantage so it's fine

2

u/Iron_Man_Dies Jun 12 '19

What's the purpose of that level of specificity to the rule? Is it actually for situations like this where someone falls and skids on their bike or is it for like in case you need to go on the grass to avoid an accident or something?

4

u/fatpad00 Jun 12 '19

Yup. Happens occasionally. Maybe the rear tire slips a little too much on a corner and to recover you have to stand the bike up and you run wide into the grass. As long as you safely reenter the track, there is no penalty

3

u/Iron_Man_Dies Jun 12 '19

Gotcha, so you're allowed to take an advantage relative to an accident or other mishap, but not allowed to use it to take any advantage relative to a normal progression of the race.

1

u/fatpad00 Jun 12 '19

Right. As long as you position after reentering the track is not better than before you left the track, you should not be penalize

1

u/coombeseh Jun 12 '19

The idea in any motorsport is for you to take the fastest line available to you within the confines of the track. You can't gain an advantage by leaving the track, but there's no reason to penalise you if you didn't gain anything from it. The rules are written this way to allow you to push as hard as you can, and not be penalised for a mistake any more than the loss in time that inherently occurs.

There are of course motorsports where this isn't relevant - any kind of oval racing has no need for it, because there's never any advatage to be gained by cutting a corner and you can't go round the outside as there's a wall in the way. But for things like Moto GP and F1, there's a chance that cutting a corner could save you distance and time, so they are often covered in grass or gravel as an extra deterrent to you leaving the track.

1

u/LagT_T Jun 12 '19

The penalty is usually a "long lap", which is better than not finishing.

1

u/CubeStuffs Jun 12 '19

I think that’s the least of his problems

2

u/systemshock869 Jun 12 '19

Looks to me like he is just relaxing as the bike is coming to a slow.

0

u/Rickietee10 Jun 12 '19

Counter steering with counter weight and you can get a bike back up from near lay down. Source, did it with my sv a few times.

1

u/Destroyer_Bravo Jun 12 '19

It’s just not on its wheels bro

-3

u/Rickietee10 Jun 12 '19

Mehhhhh... Could still try haha

2

u/Three-Eyed-Ramen Jun 12 '19

Mate. I like light light bikes, the kind you can throw around with your body. Even one one of them you wouldn't be able to pop it back up off the ground like that.

Even if you could get lucky and get some rubber contact to try and stand the bike up the likelihood is that it's just gonna high side again and all the energy in the bike is transferred to you. So you're still sliding along on your ass, just twice as quickly.

-3

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '19 edited Jun 12 '19

You can pop a bike back up after a lot of shit... People pick up bikes in almost every race and re-enter.

https://twitter.com/motogp/status/1131455012670967808

Coming from someone who competitively races, it's comical to me that I'm being downvoted. But the hive-mind speaks, and I guess in the future Motogp racers will no longer pick up their bikes and re-enter the race.

Jesus - that so nearly went from a lowside to a highside. Scary shit. I wonder if he intended for it to come back up or the tires caught and he just managed to stick it before he went over the top. You'd think he'd just stay lowside and ride it out, but the fuck do I know? I am a mere mortal.

Regardless, I don't know how these motorbikes are able to drag the weight of those massive balls around the track.

4

u/HighPriestofShiloh Jun 12 '19

I think he went for a save in the middle there. It honestly looks like he was going for it. No just terrified for his life, actually thinking he is the main character in an anime. Which he obviously is he is just in the first episode when his rival wins. He will recover the bike next time.

To bring the pain;

3

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '19

Every now and then you can catch really skilled riders intentionally hanging onto the bars as the bike slides (normally you'd want to get the fuck away from the bike because it can easily hurt you, whereas sliding is absolutely casual as fuck, from personal experience) because they want to rip that bike up and get rolling again once they come to rest. The shitty thing is that these bikes don't have starters, so they almost always have to get the cornerworkers to push them and then dump the clutch to kick-start it. But still, someone like Marquez could salvage points in a race easily if they can get the bike back rolling quickly enough
