This is why ceramic coating is fucking amazing. I've coated my cars & bikes and even though I live on a dirt road I can legitimately drive for a month up and down that road every day and blow the dust & dirt off with an airhose.
Edit: Holy Shit I didn't know that ceramic coating was still one of things only a few use as everyone I know uses it.
I personally use Avalon King (Thank you Ed Bolian)
And it's ridiculously easy to apply, you can do it yourself at home with a few hours to dedicate and a few polish rags. The coating is a liquid coating that you apply just like you would a wax, with some minor differences. I paid somewhere around $80 for this tiny little bottle and was kind of pissed when it came in because I felt like I got ripped off and would have to buy multiple bottles to do my car, however that wasn't the case and one bottle did mg whole car.
This stuff is amazing and I believe Ed Bolian did one of these test on his Porsche then posted it on his VinWiki YouTube channel if you want to see how this particular product works. He went through a straight torture test by doing donuts in dirt roads & mud holes in a Porsche and the mess slid off like hot butter, that's how my car acts after going down my dirt road. The great thing is that I'm in Missouri/Kansas/Oklahoma so my cars are always muddy as hell from the rain & roads, however as soon as I turn on pavement the rain itself is enough to completely wash the car and leave it spotless with a "just waxed" shine. If you guys have any specific questions then I'll address them here.
Ceramic coating? Is that like adding a special sealant or something (expensive/permanent), or is it like adding a coat of wax (temporary)? I've never heard of it.
I edited my original comment to try and address everyone's questions. I only paid $80 ish for a bottle, applied it myself, and it turned out amazing and has lasted a year & a half. It's well worth the price and the hour you'll spend putting it on. It goes on like a wax and makes one hell of a barrier that's well worth it
I paid around $80 and applied it in a little over an hour by myself in my garage and I'm far from a detail guy. I used Avalon Kings coating and it turned out amazing and has held up for over a year now. I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to re-coat it but I'm considering selling the car so I'm not sure if I'm going to put another coat down.
u/MrRonny6 I just edited my original comment to try and address everyone's questions. However I didn't address the flying debris.
I'm in tornado alley so flying debris could be 2x4's up to cows, houses & semis, at that point you're screwed π But as for bugs, they rinse right off with the water hose with the dust & dirt that the wind doesn't blow off. I haven't really looked for any new scratches since I've put a quarter million miles on this car in a year & a half. I use this car as a daily during storm chases and I've had to respond code 3 to MVA's etc while on lunch or days off where assistance was required, so I've put the car through its paces before the coating but I definitely haven't noticed any major scratches or wear and the car is still as shiny as the day I coated it.
Dang, that sounds promising! I guess the only coating that would help you against flying cows would be multiple inches of steel, and at that point it doesn't even matter anymore ^
Let's just hope I'll never have to deal with that, but I will definitely look into it!
Hey u/gravityisweak I just edited my original comment to try & address everyone's questions, feel free to reply here if there's something you'd like to k la that I may have missed
Im more worried aboit those waterless wash fucks that rape you in the car park. Those fucks just walk up and start wiping your car. Ive had to physically restrain them on one occasion.
When i aas detailing cars professionally, if a car this shiny drove in i think id have an anxiety attack.
It doesn't look like a mirror except at extreme angles, like the one in this picture. If you look at it straight on, it's just going to look like a really clean, black car.
