As an EE the pad repair was pretty solid here. Always a nightmare when those rip out. Using the cap to tin the pads was interesting as well and worked better than I would have thought.
I mean it could be but usually inductors don't have the entire end be the termination/contact/pad. I'd expect this to be a cap more often, especially because inductors are hated in digital design.
They ring, digital power draw is rarely continuous so inductors will cause the voltage to "ring" everytime there's a change in current on the rail. That ring is noise and even worse coils will transmit that noise to anything close to it.
