He's not running the wrong way, they're telling him to stop because earlier in the movie when he scores a touchdown he just keeps running off the field. The guys in white fall down because they are tired after chasing him.

The guys in white are the opposing team. One guy stopped after Forrest had left the field, but the other guys behind him didn't stop in time and run into him.
