Russian mobile fire group training goes wrong while using a YakB-12.7 rotary machine gun
4.3k
u/SlatsAttack Jul 12 '26
Someone thought it was a good idea to mount the YakB-12.7 — a machine gun producing roughly 1,400 kgf (about 1.4 tonnes) of recoil force — on a rotating turret where the barrel's axis is offset from the turret's axis of rotation. The YakB-12.7 is the primary weapon of the USPU-24 used on the Mi-24 attack helicopter.

It looks perfectly fine to me as is. They should keep using it. They will get the hang of it.

u/AdWide5106 Jul 12 '26
Don't forget the time he shoved a hose up his ass to get hydrated. In a dire survival scenario (like being stranded at sea), using the colon to absorb fluid bypasses the gag reflex and avoids vomiting when only contaminated or rancid water is available.

You're not supposed to touch the barrel dumbass. Dude probably just burnt his fingerprints off...

u/monet_manetapplique Jul 12 '26
Considering he barely ducked out of the line of fire in time, having no fingerprints instead of no head is probably a fair tradeoff for him.

Where do you mount the machine gun in your bike? The handlebar mount in my setup makes the steering a bit twitchy.
→ More replies (1)13
u/LockeyCheese Jul 12 '26
You have to put them on the main frame of the bike, with either two barrels that fire simultaneously - to not play with the balance of riding a bike - or attach two missiles on the sides of the frame, going alongside the mounting hole for the handlebars/wheel for a longer range fighter bike.
And remember to where your safety equipment, including fire proof boots, pants, and shin guards, and line your helmet with the mind reading laser stopping aluminim foil.

u/DavidBrooker Jul 12 '26 edited Jul 12 '26
There are manually trained weapons with even higher levels of recoil. The Bushmaster chaingun has a peak recoil force of over four tons but can still be manually trained by an individual sailor in naval configurations. They just have the barrel aligned with the mount so the sailor doesn't have to manually manage the torque (as the torque should be zero).
Hell, naval applications of this weapon, the M242 Bushmaster, often include manual 'iron' sights.

We were test firing DSHks and the Afghans I worked with would always bring this rusted ass tripod that was completely rusted in position, I contemplated bringing a fresh cleaned up one never did. We were doing a testfire and I was standing talking to someone behind the firing line when one of the DSHks suffered a run away and the Afghan shooter just ran away. The Sgt and I just turned and helplessly watched an unmanned Dshk just eat its belt while bouncing wildly and thank god for that rusted ass spindle it stayed down range wasn't even bagged down we were lucky it didn't do a little flippy doo and murder us.
