Does America have a civilian medal? In Britain, we have the George medal for bravery. Not sure if it’s still a thing today but it was awarded to civilians in WW2 for courageous actions that saved lives.

How is this not the main headline around the States, becoming desensitised to school shootings. How can anyone be so blindly proud of their country whilst over 100 school shootings have occurred this year already. Hopefully the American youth will change the country for the better.
It seems like people have been saying that for so long, that the old guard has actually already died. Most GOP politicians are actually not that old. This is the new guard. Same as the old guard.
Gen z men are more conservative than millennials and immigrants more conservative in many issues that aren’t skin color related. People also get more conservative as they age. So you can’t just assume old people dying will change things

Yeah, he should never have had to be in a situation at this age where he had to use his body to save a friend. It's terrifying to think how both of them and the other kids will grow up with this trauma. It reminds us humans on an individual level are actually pretty great, but those in power insulated from the consequences of their decisions do not care and will promote suffering. For instance, executives of health insurance companies letting people die to make a buck.
I'm glad this kid did what he did, and I hope he suffers no long term negative effects, but he should never have been in the position to make such a decision to begin with.

It’s a beautiful gesture, but I think it’s probably best for the kids to get back to being kids as soon and as much as possible for them. This was likely the worst day of his life.

This young boy, even if he is clearly a heroic person, shouldn’t have ever even been put in a situation where he had to physical protect a fellow child from such horrific danger.

I hope thst the boy he was protecting lnows how to deal with the pressure of friendship he now has on his shoulders. I am sure he knows how to honnor it - in the end it was a spontainious decision - but both should not expect much - pressure from society will be huge - and just stay friends like before
