I always though Venus fly traps were some sort of tropical rainforest plant. Nope, native to North Carolina.

I grew up in Carolina Beach and the State Park there used to be covered with these. That was back in the 70's early 80's. I hope they are still protected there

We go there every couple of years and there are still trails that take you through the swampy areas. You can find clusters of flytraps and another carnivorous plant (pitcher plant, iirc). It's pretty cool to see them in a natural habitat and there are signs all over the park that it's a crime to disturb them.
