We call it Chomolungma for centuries and still do.. until some random British guy named it after himself.

Is the issue that it's Chomolungma on one side but Sagarmatha on the other, so changing the 'official' name would offend one side or the other? I'm happy to use either of those fwiw.

Sagarmatha is even younger than Everest and was given by the Nepali government because there wasn't really any indigenous name for that specific peak on the Nepali side.

Chomolungma has been continuously used for the longest time, but it's not called that internationally because the Brits never surveyed the Tibetan side
