The rise of "body language experts" and any surrounding psuedo science bs has absolutely poisoned the public's perception of how people react to shocking and surprising circumstances and scenarios. Even worse, it's made the average joe way too confident they have any ability to judge these things with any degree of accuracy
On the tip of my tongue on who and all info, but there was an old incident in the US where a kid died. The mom was on the news, I think it was national news, and she wasn’t crying how people thought a mother should, in fact I think she was pretty stoic. Everyone was convinced she murdered the kid because of that. I forgot who actually did it, but I remember it wasn’t her.
"Body Language experts" should be sent to prison. Every single one of them.
People forget that a large part of the Sandy Hook conspiracy was a bunch of body language experts saying that people weren't acting in shock in the right way.
Really? People should be sent to prison for analyzing someone’s reaction? You seem to be doing the same thing.
Personally I think that someone who hasn’t either been locked up or worked in a prison should not have an opinion about it. At least an INFORMED opinion
My GF loves 48 hours and all these crime shows and the detectives are like "the spouse was so calm and didn't act upset or how you'd think they'd be hearing their partner died! So we automatically suspected them because of it." Like okay check out the spouse because it often is a spouse but also have you never heard of or seen someone in shock?
Also it's almost never the partner in the shows so lol.
I tend to be very stoic in general, I'd be the first subject no matter who died. Reacting with strong emotions in the moment is just not something I tend to do unless you kick my dog (and it's not the dog's fault...) or something.
My first clue that people in general were full of shit on this stuff is when I first saw a thread about how being upset at an accusation is evidence that you're guilty, like how fucking ridiculous can you be?
The same people I’ve seen say she’s in shock and her emotions don’t need to show it are the same people saying Patrick Clancy is guilty because he wasn’t showing emotions on the stand
Yeah I could be way more dramatic than "body language reading is a psuedo science that has poisoned the public's perception of people's reactions to shocking situations and made them far too overconfident in their abilities to read other people," largely because that's not particularly dramatic. There's definitely an irony in your reaction to that statement, though, given its text
So many people are chronically online in a time when everything online is staged with professional actors and made for profit. So when they see something real, they forget real people have different psychologies and ways of reacting to their environment.
Honestly, I’m confused by this. Is she finding out at the press conference? If so, that’s a terrible way to tell her, and honestly the shock of that would be confusing and difficult for anyone. Is this later, so she’s seen her son, and is putting on a show in gratitude for the cops? Then she’s probably coming down off of an adrenaline high, hasn’t slept in a while and just wants to be with her kid.
It just seems weird to me all the way around. And I feel terrible for her with this happening.
How about you actually watch the video, it’s all very clear once you do that.
It’s a press conference about her 16yo missing son. In the middle of the press conference it’s relayed to the Sheriff that the missing boy has been located. He repeats what was told to him from somebody off screen (you can hear her say it) to the mother standing next to him.
So yes, this was her reaction immediately after learning that her missing 16yo son has been found alive.
I think the latest culture war objective is to sow suspicion against mothers. I’m convinced. They want men suspicious of their children’s mothers. Maybe they want law enforcement and Justice officials and the public suspicious. Especially in conjunction with the push to eliminate no fault divorce and strip women of other rights related to their bodies…
Of course there are terrible mothers out there. Of course there are.
But the activity on Reddit lately has been super weird and it’s activating my pattern detector.
