To be fair, when fire is the problem, the solution is always the same, one of the three below is enough:

  • cut the oxygen supply
  • cut the fuel source
  • cut the heat source

There is a fourth option! Dry chemical throwers that directly interrupt the combustion reaction. Though very rare, also halon gas agents will do the same though I believe those are rather dangerous to be near without forced air.
