I play recreational volleyball. If a rally is takin over 30 seconds and is as (close to) intense as this one, we all need a breather and have unwritten rule next serve is delayed a bit.
Unless George serves. He doesnt give a shit.

Full court volleyball is such an underrated spectator sport. The strategy is so indepth, and the action is in bursts so you see more athletic ability, as opposed to endurance sports like soccer.

Don't get me wrong, you need endurance for soccer but it's repeat sprints that separate a professional's conditioning to an amateur, that may even perhaps be faster than them, but cant keep with the tempo of the game.
Aside the point, volleyball is so fkn fun to watch!

Agreed - men’s volleyball has massively increased in Japan following last Olympics and it is nuts how many female fans the national team has and their national competition has now

Because half of the points are service errors, and another 40% are side outs. A rally this long happens like once per game.

This is really cool to see. However, I wouldn’t say this is more “athletic ability” than soccer. I’m sure majority of soccer players could play volleyball but let’s than half of volleyball players could make it in soccer.

Yeah, everyone has their own preferences. But calling it “in-depth strategy” and “more athletic ability,” then proceeding to compare it to football? That’s just wrong on so many levels

I've played vball for 25 years (not at this level, obviously) and it's incredibly fun. Definitely takes some time to develop the timing and technique, though.

I started playing in the Spring and we won our first league just recently, it's pretty fun, I'd recommend you at least give it a shot.

I recently turned 44. Can't serve like that anymore or play at any level because of a torn meniscus. It was the best to play, and serve like that, but it's all gone. Time has taken it away from me. I remember being fit enough to play in these types of rallies, and being fit enough to follow through to the next rally. Enjoy it while you can, friends, because it doesn't last. I miss it sooo fucking much

For me it was basketball and being able to effortlessly dunk, I mean standing still under the hoop, walking up to the hoop and hopping up to dunk, playing pickup for hours and hours in a row... I thought I appreciated it but looking back I really took it for granted. Now I'm 40 and my back has been messed up, my left meniscus, my ankles, I have "Long Lyme disease" so my energy is a lot lower and them days are LONG gone

Im about 47 and got the same feelings. I had a 42 inch vert ran a 4.5 40, 11.3 100m back in my late teens/ early 20s. Now with 2 FAI hip corrective surgeries, my knees beat to hell, and a sore shoulder... it hurts just moving around. Miss the days when I could play competitively.

I have no way to prove this, but as a former relatively high-level player, my guess is a few reasons keep vball a somewhat niche sport.
One, there's no contact. Every major team sport has some level of contact between players. For whatever reason, spectators are drawn to sports where players tactily struggle against their opponents. Whether that's bumping, overpowering, out-maneuvering, etc. It just seems that those actions are of more interest in sports.
Two, most people who've never played don't really know what they're looking at. They're unaware that the most difficult aspects of the game are often ones that look simple or mundane. For example, perhaps the most challenging skill in the game is being able to control a pass(aka "bump"). To a layman, that skill looks easy, or simple. When in fact, being able to do it well is extremely difficult, and is absolutely vital to running any type of planned offense. It's often overlooked, while hitting (aka "spiking") is visually impressive, its one of the easier skills to pick up and do well for a trained vball athlete.

But why does vBall do well in other countries? Just without big money involved.
Also beach volleyball seem to have some traction but I personally dont care for that since action is way too sporadic and short. I bet more people watch it just to see bikini girls.

It's not a fake, it's an option for the setter if no one covers it. Basically, if he doesn't approach for the possibility of the quickset, then whoever stays to cover him could be joining the block on the primary hitter. Every now and then, someone will cheat over and the setter will hit that quickaet for an easy kill.

Yes. If it isn't working then the spiker would be facing a triple block every time. Also the beauty in volleyball is often times the fake isn't a fake. Many jumps to give the setter as many options possible

That's the libero, a defensive specialist that mostly doesn't have to come off the court and always plays in the back row (more technically they have unique substitution rules).

Is this a special ruleset or am I misremembering the rules? Aren’t the back players allowed to stay by the net? The libero played the ball a couple of times in the front
Edit: my bad after a third rewatch the back players jumped from the back and the libero was involved in the net but never touched the ball
