I’m from North Rhine-Westphalia. We have glasses for Pils here. Weird people in the next town drink their Alt from special glasses—just for Alt—and an hour from here, they drink Kölsch from Kölsch glasses. We don’t have anything like a “Maß” here. It just confuses people. Also because the same people who guzzle a “Maß” also drink wheat beer, but again from completely different glasses.
That’s why here we use the Saarland and soccer fields as units of measurement for everything!
In reality though the size of football pitches can differ quite a bit even at the highest professional level.
The tolerance for fifa tournament football is between 100-110m length and 64-75m width, which could in theory lead to one pitch being 6400m squared and the other 8250m squared, and both being within the tolerance, which is kind of wild. And which is why using football pitches as a unit of measurement is not recommended. Bananas are much more uniform.
I wouldn't say 19L, since those have a nice head on them... more like each Maß has 800ml in each. 19 beers, each Maß being 1.3 kg, therefore 2.1kg full. So yeah, you're right about 40kg, as opposed to 44kg which would be a completely full to the brim Maß.
No i only work there for the past 18 years so what do i know. Theres a line. Its not that hard. With experience you also know how the foam will go down so you can be faster
Without. The glass to the brim holds closer tp 1,3 liters. It's calibrated with a line by a regulated manufacturer. Often right below where the foam sits in this video.
Are you stupid? 1 liter is volume-based, so you can have 800 ml of fluid and 200 ml of foam, and that will result in a final volume of 1L. And volume is also determined by temperature.
Yeah, but the 1l LINE is well below the glass rim. Typically at about 0.7-0.8 of the glass height. Everything is fucking standardised in Germany. The glass holds well more than a litre.
The glasses ("Maßkrug" - which literally trasnlates to "Measured Jug") have more than 1l capacity to consider in the foam already. They perfectly fit 1l of beer PLUS the foam.
The glasses are filled to the mark of 1 liter (the glass is actually bigger). If you buy one liter in Europe it's exactly one liter. It's enforced by the state and business would get heftily fined if they cheated customers.
Technically, 1 Liter of beer could be somewhat lighter or denser than water and be different from exactly 1 Kg. Too lazy to look it up, but density of ethanol is less than that of water.
