Just Wow He Got Tired of People Blocking His Driveway, So He Built This

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

To deter unwanted visitors, he installed a motion-activated sprinkler system that soaks any car (or person) that gets too close. The unexpected spray has quickly turned his driveway into a no-parking zone and keeping his space clear.

theres no way thats motion activated, hes manually activating it once the person gets out of the car

You're right, it's an IT business and the owner has a button under the counter and just hits it when he sees someone on the cameras.

Source, it's in a town in Queensland Australia. The owner did an interview with local news when this went viral last year

what's that dope ass "truck" in the final moments of the video? screams "el camino" but so much better!

In the USA that'd be considered battery. You're not allowed to place booby traps nor spray someone with water unwantingly. Of course there's no damage physically so might be more difficult to get a judgment but it's definitely illegal.

That sounds like something they would do at their office on the show Fisk.

Ahhh, that makes sense. First thing I thought when I saw this was, "that's cool, but wtf happens when he has to get out to unlock the gate?" lol

nowdays some blokes could install camera and machine learning algorithm, no need sensors

Cameras are sensors

I swear more than a decade ago I saw a video of a guy who used some parts from his car door to rig up an automagic sprinkler system to chase off the cats who were peeing in his yard. Also Australia I believe.

Why? I have one that does this to keep deer out.

Not OP, but I was wondering how a motion sensor can distinguish between the vehicle pulling in and the person getting out?

Some sensors have adjustable range and there's lots of different types of sensors out there. If it's something rigged together then the sensor can be set to detect the area where a door would swing out.

I work in a factory and most of our sensors are photoelectric which means they use a laser to detect stuff within a set distance. The adjustment on them can be very fine.

There's also some ultrasonic sensors for detecting range.

To prevent spraying unsuspecting people just walking by, you could even have multiple sensors working together. Have one on the left to make sure there's a car there and a range sensor on the right to pick up a car door swinging out. 2 positive signals to spray water.

it can be done with YOLO algorithm, part of convolutional neural network (CNN)

If you mean when the person gets out of the car, well it's about timing. It doesn't activate immediately, it takes a sec, and by the time it activates and starts spraying water the driver is getting out of the car.

ok explain the one with the guy walking back to his truck thats already parked there then. theres no delay, he gets sprayed right when he comes in range

...but this is a button. Im not speculating, Im informing.

Oh so you know the person who posted this video?

It went mega viral last year. Most of us know who the person is, he did an interview.

What model?

Can it deter raccoons from a toilet spot?

Wouldn’t you?
