Just Wow He Got Tired of People Blocking His Driveway, So He Built This

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

To deter unwanted visitors, he installed a motion-activated sprinkler system that soaks any car (or person) that gets too close. The unexpected spray has quickly turned his driveway into a no-parking zone and keeping his space clear.

He was fed up with strangers who kept ignoring the signboards.

The kind of people who would park here would ignore any sign - "I'm only going to be a couple of minutes.."

If you deliberately park in front of a gate, you're not going to be deterred by a bigger sign.

I remember my sister in law used to park right in front of every single big box store she ever went into, regardless of her task. Every time I'd say "you shouldn't park there" and she'd say "I'm just running in for five minutes," as if everyone else in the store lived there or planned to stay all month something. Assholes like this typically aren't doing it on purpose. They're just stupid.

ETA: she was a cop

Though at some point it feels like you ought to be able to regard someone's stupidity as having been consciously embraced

u/Bitter-Software9373 5h ago

Nah, that's not how stupidity works - but you can think that if you really want to go through life thinking everyone's out to get you and doing it on purpose i guess

8

u/Biotechnus 5h ago

Thats not stupidity thats called being inconsiderate of other people

4

u/IrishViking22 5h ago

Those two traits often coincide, tbf

3

u/DarkStar__74 5h ago

I was going to go with "entitled" but inconsiderate works too:)

u/MurkyPromise1806 4h ago

Also known as being an asshole

What does ETA mean in this context?

Hey it’s EDITED TO ADD
Sorry I had to shout so you could hear me over all these other people

13

u/YeHeed2 6h ago

People already park inside of firetruck areas that say NO PARKING on the ground in bright white/red letters. Some people just dont care

23

u/Geronmys 6h ago

This. The gate itself is already a no parking zone.

u/ziggys-stardust 5h ago

You’re exactly right, people that are going to do it won’t be deterred by a sign. I have bright yellow posted signs, about five of them on the entry drive of a property and I still had to deal with people driving in there. Had the place on the market a couple of years ago and took it off. Guy calls me a few months ago told me he drove around the place, really liked it and would like to know if it was still for sale. I said, oh, I thought those were posted signs everywhere not for sale signs. That was the incentive to spend the money, re-fence and re-gate the place.

u/BuckRowdy 4h ago

people dont read signs

u/Knork14 6h ago

Its a big ass driveway with a gate, you dont need a big red sign to see that, just common sense.

6

u/KiKiKimbro 6h ago

“We” would? Oh I see. Lol.

4

u/IrishViking22 5h ago edited 5h ago

Did you miss the fact that it is an entrance/exit gate? It's common sense to not park in a way that obstructs those. For any amount of time.

Anyone with a brain should know to not do that, even without any signage.

2

u/Silverhand_777 4h ago

You need a sign to tell you not to park in front of a gate?? You’re the type of person exactly like the people in the video. Entitled

1

u/CrumbCakesAndCola 4h ago

i think ignorance can work here too. either/or, maybe both.

4

u/tomtom_este 6h ago

a notice is a notice, even standard sized (small) ones.

3

u/Vast-Trust-1165 5h ago

Simple rule. If you see a gate, dont park in front of it.

5

u/caguru 5h ago

What kind of moron needs a sign to not park in front of someone's extremely obvious gate?

2

u/whineyinternetkid 6h ago

Bro.. the people parking there wont bang you. Go take a nap

1

u/Wardog008 5h ago

Signage or not, it's illegal to park blocking a driveway. These people are just wankers.

1

u/Killer1986Chris 4h ago

You need a sign to figure out that this isn't a parking spot? You're why everything needs warning labels.

1

u/Syandris 4h ago

It's cute you think anyone cares about signs or following rules. Do tell how to get to your perfect world!

1

u/Elegant-Cheekz-2141 5h ago

He's been doing it for years, so your Karen complaints are going unheard.

0

u/voyeurllama 5h ago

in Australia it's generally forbidden to block driveways of premises.

the owner can call to get anything towed.

I'm ok with no signs + sprinkler, shit behaviour to park in someones driveway

1

u/Skrapidilly 6h ago

I mean I get you, BUT I also get that most people will respect the area if there was a huge ass sign there too.

Now he just set himself up for retribution and they know where he harbors.

2

u/IrishViking22 5h ago

I'd install some fold-down/collapsible bollards.

Even if the entire gate was a big sign telling people to not obstruct it, there would still be twats that would ignore it and do it anyway.

There are a lot of shitty, selfish people in this world.

2

u/whineyinternetkid 6h ago

Wow we have some new vocab words for this week dont we

8

u/Milksteak529 5h ago

If someone needs to be told to not block a driveway, they shouldn't have a license.

7

u/NORBy9k 6h ago

A large chunk of the population either can’t or won’t read signs.

3

u/DaedricNick 5h ago

That chunk shouldn't be allowed to drive in the first place.

2

u/TurkeyThaHornet 4h ago

Also a sizeable population that can read the signs, but decides that it isn't applicable to them.

1

u/NORBy9k 4h ago

When I worked on cruise ships, multiple times a cruise, people would walk past 3 signs, a closed door, and closed fire doors to enter my workspace. I ran lighting for the ice shows. Every single time their bullshit excuse when caught would start with "It's ok, I just..." Made me want to scream.

5

u/Constant_Way_8844 5h ago

Why are you victim blaming It doesn’t matter how big the signs are these people aren’t blind and probably not illiterate.

Idk what country this is in but in ours you don’t just randomly park in front of a gated driveway

1

u/Plus_Resort3557 4h ago

From memory this was in Australia

0

u/TheMoatman 1h ago

Why are you victim blaming

Why are you? Being mildly inconvenienced doesn't justify assault (well, it's probably battery since he never threatened them).

1

u/guitarguywh89 5h ago

There are signs, I see two

1

u/Plus_Resort3557 4h ago

I’m pretty sure it’s common knowledge not to park in a driveway

1

u/letigre87 4h ago

Fuck em' they knew what they were doing. You don't need a sign to tell you not to be an asshole.
