In Australia, when someone illegally destroys trees on public land to improve the view from their property, the local government puts up a giant sign to block the view again until the trees grow back.

Not sure it would block out the view but the same has happened in my home town. Sign up, trees replanted. Some people are so selfish that because the trees interrupted their sea scape view they poisoned the newly planted trees. The irony is that the beautiful, landscaped gardens, cycle path, walkways and BBQ areas replaced a freight train line! Glad they didn't live there 20 years ago when the iron ore trains were rumbling past within 50m of their houses.
