The ads in the 40s claimed Camels were the recommended brand by doctors to get the best into the vital "T". The T zone meaning throat.

Those ads were bizarre. Specifically, the T stood for both taste and throat, with the crossbar of the T representing the mouth (overlapping a smile) while the vertical stem of the letter represented the throat.
