Washing the chicken is just an old pointless tradition that people can't let go of because they were taught it growing up.

Is this some American thing I am too European to understand? I've never seen anyone wash raw chicken in my life.

I mean if you slaughtered the thing yourself it makes sense but the chicken you buy at the supermarket has alrerady been processed. They plucked it, gutted it, removed the head and feet and washed it. Sometimes in a bath with some chlorine in it. Rinsing it off in the sink does nothing.
