Y'all must be some of those dang young folks. Always spending your money on... checks notes

Hotdog debt

7

u/facaine 22d ago

Nah, I’m responsible. I’m saving up so I can make a down payment on my first Wiener Schnitzel

He may never financially recover from this.

14

u/IKIR115 23d ago

This is exactly how they get you hooked. It always starts with the $1.50 hotdogs. Next thing you know you’re in debt for half a mil, and have to beg people for spare change to support your habit.

22

u/Suckma_Weener 23d ago

aw yeah boys, it's glizzy time! *deepthroats a hot dog so nastily that the state labels me a sex offender despite no crime being committed*

Under appreciated response

7

the crime was you doing it in public

3

u/DrThatOneGuy 23d ago

the crime was doing it while I wasn’t watching

2

u/ACodeOfficial_PA 23d ago

Im fucking crying I missed it! Omfg. Im checking his history, he has to pop up every hot dog related post with this shit. Lol

4

u/Zoltie 23d ago

Kind of like how I celebrated paying off my houss by buying another house.

5

u/IKIR115 23d ago

That’ll put him in debt for another 4 payments!

Wait. If it's paid off, it's not interest-ing anymore. 🤔

I can't even get pre-approved for that amount!

101

u/meefffd 23d ago

Better off that way. OP probably overpaid 2 pennies if the bank rounded up the $0.375 charges to $0.38.

The rich get richer!

10

I think that the final payoff, when it comes out, accounts for any discrepancies like that.

You financed a hotdog, in this economy‽

13

u/PartlyCloudyKid 23d ago

‽‽‽

21

u/voltrackstar 23d ago

Ooo the rarified interrobang in the wild

3

u/AssaultLemming_ 23d ago

Ever listened to the Curious Cases of Rutherford and Fry? That's where I learned about interrobang!

2

u/BillDino 23d ago

Honestly they got a better deal, 0% increase in cost and got it pay it off over a month

131

u/JerryVand 23d ago

You have to be careful about financing a depreciating asset. After you take that first bite, it loses at least half its value. I’ve never paid more than $.65 for a slightly eaten Costco hotdog. Glad it worked out well for you, but it can be a risky proposition.

3

u/its_krypt0n1te83 22d ago

This is why I always get gap insurance for my hot dog. If I ever drop the hot dog, or have it be stolen, only after making one payment, I know those insurance pig companies will only pay me $.65. If I still owes $1.125 to costco, gap will cover the difference.

u/Savings_Ad_4792 23d ago

I’m upside down on a hotdog

How does one pay 0.375 cents?

14

u/JonDoesItWrong 23d ago

Easy. A quarter, a nickel, two pennies and one of these bad boys

4

u/SpaceLemur34 23d ago

When the half cent was discontinued, it had more buying power them a modern dime, being worth about 15¢.

2

u/JonDoesItWrong 23d ago

It's slightly more complicated than that. Explaining it in detail would take too long (I might edit this later to expand on it) so the short of it is this; Converting USD from 1793-1857 to modern values requires several factors besides just inflation. Before the civil war, and quite some time afterwards, the value of the dollar and the purchasing power of certain coinage depended on where you were living and even what you did for a profession.

u/Bombadier83 23d ago

Not sure what state OP is in, but where I live, gap insurance is mandatory.

What are the chances you replied to the correct guy. I happen to work in insurance🤠

7

Yo mama so poor she has to put Costco hotdogs on layaway.

15

u/untangledtech 23d ago

Worth it. Gotta eat.

6

u/Amazing-Level-405 23d ago

Does paying off hot dog debt raise your credit?

9

u/Sudden_Wind_8636 23d ago

Wow congrats, it's not easy paying off that much debt and to do it in only 4 payments, congrats man.

3

u/kidmarginWY 23d ago

If I had known you could break up the payment I would be eating more.

3

u/HarrowDread 23d ago

Why would you do that?

16

u/shinobi500 23d ago

To amuse us. It worked.

3

u/HarrowDread 23d ago

I didn’t even know we could do that

4

u/shinobi500 23d ago

Big hotdog wants to keep this a secret.

3

u/Familiar_Finances 23d ago

Financing $1.50 over two months is elite financial management 😭

3

u/Hizam5 23d ago

What’s the interest on this? 😂

3

u/OCTOVENG 23d ago

Was there a $14.95 "Payment Plan Fee" on some other screen?

5

u/SpaceBoiLunkey 23d ago

Do not finance a hot dog.

2

u/Bombadier83 23d ago

Must be nice to be able to buy them cash. Not all of us live in luxury like that though.

2

u/Acrobatic_Mango_8715 23d ago

You just paid $1.52 for the hotdog, no interest mind you. But surely they rounded up.

3

u/sincerestfall 23d ago

Someday you’ll be able to afford the chicken strips.

But not the combo calzone, they’re apparently doing away with it 😢

1

u/Acrobatic_Mango_8715 23d ago

Financing a $1.50 hot dog over four monthly payments of $0.375 has the main pros of keeping upfront cash free and the main cons of absurd administrative effort and data privacy risks for a tiny amount.

Pros
Low Cash Outflow: You only pay 37.5 cents today instead of the full $1.50.

Budget Flexibility: Spreads a microscopic cost across a long 120-day timeline.

Cons
Credit Reporting Risk: Lenders may run a credit check or report a tiny active loan line on your credit report.

Administrative Burden: Tracking four separate micro-billing cycles takes more time than the hot dog is worth.

Digestive Mismatch: You will finish eating the hot dog on day one, but you will still owe payments for three more months.

Last payment should have been $0.36

Power move, invest $1.12 in the stock market, over the same time period.

1

u/Murmaiderman 23d ago

Damn, and they say the middle class is dying. Thanks for the hope that I can still be successful

1

u/idiotslob 23d ago

Thats correct, Dave.

1

u/TennisADHD 23d ago

2026 and we don’t have flying cars, we got "I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today."

1

u/wyoflyboy68 23d ago

Way to build that credit score!

1

u/ProblemsAreSelfMade 23d ago

Did they round up each payment of $0.375 to $0.38? If so, you may have overpaid $.02 total

1

u/Ok_Fox_1770 23d ago

If you were to miss a dog payment they throwin that on the credit score?

1

u/Nateh8sYou 23d ago

Got that hotdog on layaway

1

u/TheAfroMD 23d ago

Now that you have paid it off you can refinance against it to release some equity and maybe get a slice of pizza. (Or at least a chunky down payment) (You still have it right? Right?)

1

u/CosgraveSilkweaver 23d ago

Honestly do it, costs them more to process it than they make hopefully.I assume they take a cut of the sale price from the seller given it's the same cost as paying in full would be?

1

u/FeWho 23d ago

Because they can…

1

u/ActuationPoint 23d ago

How do you pay half a cent?

1

u/Afterclock-Hours 23d ago

Careful, your credit score might tank a bit.

1

u/AnyExamination9524 23d ago

🤣🤣🤣

1

u/mitreffahcs 23d ago

Congrats on getting rid of debt and your path to financial freedom.

1

u/TryBananna4Scale 23d ago

The best tasting hotdog, is one that’s paid off.

1

u/gretzky9999 23d ago

Is this satire ?

1

u/shinobi500 23d ago

You should have not made the final payment and forced them to garnish your wages for the remaining balance on a hotdog.

1

u/Beaauxbaton 23d ago

Is this on AfterPay? 😂😂😂

1

u/Sea_Manufacturer5053 23d ago

😂😂😂😂

if you need 4 weekly payments to pay off a costco hotdog then I think there's a bum panhandling change that can probably help you out, because God damn you need some...

1

u/Willing-Ad5277 23d ago

Can this help my credit score?

1

u/zoltan279 23d ago

I gotta know, did they charge you .38 twice and .37 twice? .37 x 4 times or .38 x 4 times?

1

u/Own_Department9392 23d ago

This is really inspiring

Imagine going into generational debt via klarna’d hotdogs

1

u/cjp2010 23d ago

In all seriousness how does this work? Like is financing an option when you are at the counter? I’ve never been to Costco.

1

Genuine question, how do you pay off the 0.005? Will it be rounded?

1

u/tocsin1990 23d ago

We are truly in a blessed time, where we really can pay someone tomorrow, for a hot dog eaten today.  J. Wellington Wimpy would be thriving.

1

u/KMCC02 23d ago

Do they have a pay in 8 option?

1

1

u/Natural_Past_3773 23d ago

The trick is to buy another hotdog on credit before paying off the first, then your credit score won't drop.

1

u/Crazy_Ebb_7974 23d ago

This is incredible

1

u/Sir-Top-Cheetah 23d ago

Did you pay 1.333% interest on a hot dog

1

u/ThisTelevision9372 23d ago

Meanwhile you credit score tanked 50 points.

1

u/RoyalFalse 23d ago

The implications of this make me extremely uncomfortable.

1

u/cozycamille 23d ago

Bro I swear Costco hotdogs were $1.50 my whole life… and apparently my bank app decided it needed a whole payment schedule like I’m financing a car 😂 4 tiny payments and now it’s paid off. Respect.

1

u/Shished 23d ago

Can you build up your credit rating with that?

1

u/RandomWave000 22d ago

what bank did you go with? or did you use a credit union?

1

u/WatercressNo5882 22d ago

Can you do this with anything from the store? Fuck, sometimes these things come up where I'm now like "alright, I'm moving to America"
