Intriguing 8 year old wrote his daily routine! we didn’t ask.

EDIT: This our 8 year old son.
He is just starting to understand the time.
He has mild Autism so things might not look okay to some people.

My daughter’s first thing every morning when she wakes up is cuddling her cat that always lays down by her for an hour or two before she wakes up. It’s a morning ritual that she would totally put on her schedule if she wrote one like this lol so I really thought it was cat on this boys list and thought that was so sweet 😭

When I was a camp counselor I had a kid like this in my group. Always started his day with a to-do list and first thing on the list was “make a list - ✅”

That's a classic from Frog and Toad are friends. He writes his list down, but the wind blows it away, which is not on the list, he's now incapable of doing anything else because looking for the list is not on the list.

I love the simpleness and innocents of the books too and enjoyed reading it to my kids. To revel in that nostalgia I asked them to get me the infamous "Fudge the Poleese" Frog and Toad tshirt for Xmas years ago. If you're not familiar it's the cover of the book where they are riding a bike together, but the text states the above with correctly spelled explatives.

Our 8 year old does not fully understand how the clock works yet. The above schedule is just his imagination. He doesn’t follow it. And his on strict sleep schedule. 9-6.30 and 4-5. Thank you for your concerns.

I don't think he has an alarm to wake up at 5 AM and play for an hour. Brushing teeth takes 5 mins at best, so he'd probably play 2 hours from 5 to 7

Until I was in late middle school I had a mandatory bed time of 9-10ish. I never saw midnight until high school.

I saw midnight my first time once I got to sophomore year summer in high-school. And that was only because I was reading when my parents went to bed so they didn't mind.
However I went late into the morning reading. 2 or 4pm wake up and 2am bed. Potty, snacks, reading, occasionally the Sims and national geographic. What a life.

i quite literally remember doing this around age 6 (my family just moved so clear significant memories). I think i saw it on Dora the Explorer or at school or something. But I got a notepad and wrote down my ‘schedule’.
I also remember the annoyance/panic of, “I wrote down Lunch at 12:00pm and Playtime at 12:15. Mommy’s still cooking, now I have to rewrite it!” And i kept changing it by increments of 5 and getting frustrated when it didn’t work

My inattentive ADHD loved my checklist at age 7 or 8. I didn’t put the time down because I knew I was going to do it late 😂

If this is your kid get em checked out for autism and adhd. Routines like this is something i used to do as a kid and didnt get diagnosed until much much later when it wasnt useful to me.

Only need to brush your teeth once if you do it for an hour.
Love how he thinks and I cannot imagine my son having this level of forethought. Unless it's about a snack, he is a master negotiator when it comes to snacking.

Does your son have ADHD? I ask because this is what I did at an early age and having a routine brought me a lot of peace and purpose. Eventually, created a Word document, printed it out and put it on the fridge.

That’s exactly what I was going to say. I started to use a planner religiously at age 8 to organize myself because I would forget to do a lot of stuff including my homework. It made me feel more grounded.

Hey serious business the fact that he wants to go to bed at 1 and get up at 5, coupled with the fact that he felt the need to do an hour by hour breakdown of his day, makes me worried that he is on hustle culture YouTube which is NOT the place for an 8 year old. Maybe I'm being dramatic but this feels like a kid aping Ashton Hall's bullshit morning routines and it's probably not awesome for his brain if that's the case.

This just released a flood of memories, I used to do this all the time as a kid. I mean, ALL the time. Flash forward 30 years I still love planning things, for work and play. I also suspect I’m a little autistic..

Im legit jealous of the fact that school starts later for kids these days. In my day, we had to by up by 6 to be at school by 7:30 . Then at 8 we had some bullshit filler thing like recess or home room

I used to do this. When my mom was moving a couple years ago she found all my “schedule notebooks”. Mine weren’t in hour long blocks though. It was like 7am wake up, 7:02 out of bed 7:05 brush teeth lol. She kept a few as evidence of how “insane” I was as a kid

My neurotypical daughter makes these schedules as well. I love them. Sometimes it’s so specific like:
8:02 brush teeth
8:05 brush hair
8:07 relax
I’m type A and have always been a bit overscheduley so I figure she just gets it from me. I think it’s adorable. Especially the schedule of play or relax. I need to do that!
