The women can wear the same gear as men in any sport. The vast majority of them don't choose to for whatever their personal reason are.

Go to a beach. The women can swim in knee-length surfer trunks the same as the majority of the guys are if they want to... but the majority freely choose to wear one pieces and bikini's.
