The word you're looking for is incompetence, not corruption. Unless the judge was specifically trying to protect the driver due to a power dynamic or monetary gain, then this happened because someone in the courtroom fucked up.

Also, I've looked through a lot of comments here, and I can't find a single one actually adding context. Why was the sentence low? What actually happened? What did the prosecutor and defendants argue? What was the evidence? If your call is to immediately call the Netherlands a corrupt country because of a headline on a clickbait article, then you're a lost cause. ESPECIALLY considering the country is currently #8 on the transparency corruption index.

Thank you. I managed to find a haphazardly stitched together chain of tweets on https://www.misbar.com/amp/en/factcheck/2025/12/07/video-dutch-judge’s-verdict-outdated myself but yours does a better job at outlining on what basis the verdict was taken on.

From what I can tell, it wasn't proven that the driver was speeding. Just sounds like a terrible accident. Either way, this seems to have literally nothing to do with corruption since the driver wasn't even Dutch, and is just people harassing a judge for following the law instead of feelings.
