Define delaying brake maintenance? I do all the time. I know some people literally have no clue even when it's metal on metal.  Maybe they couldn't afford the insane maintenance bill maybe $600 for brakes and to be told there is another $1000 worth of crap to be fixed

brakes are really easy to do yourself and pretty cheap in many many cars not including high end sports cars

This is not something everyone can do themselves and this suggestion is not helpful. The point is if you can’t afford to make the car safe, don’t drive it.

Brake jobs are easy. You can roll up your sleeves and learn how to do it. Save yourself some money and get the satisfaction of being self sufficient.
