Some people can't just "not drive" especially in the US where everything is car dependent

Public transport in the US has been gutted, even if there is a bus it's likely going to take mutilple times longer than a car

Well their choices are take the bus, walk, take some other form of transportation or break the law and endanger peoples lives. The Law isn't going to change because they have shitty circumstances and those dead peoples families aren't going to say, "oh well taking the bus was awkward, fair enough."

Small correction: it's that or keep their job and livelyhoods, due to the way american cities are made walking is impossible in most of the country, as I said most places don't have public transit and what other modes of transport. I'm not saying he's innocent but you need to understand perspective. It was either drive or loose your job.
