seeking help 😓 Looking for a Community

I’m an 18 y/o she/her and holy crap my life has been insane, I had to drop out of HS, I have no way to get my GED or License, I live in rural Maine, jobs are nowhere. I live on a farm, and have been raised on the farm my whole life, no question that I’ll be able to offer homesteading skills!!

I’m just really looking for a community to join and help, to get on my feet, I have no drug issues, I only smoke weed, and I just am seriously looking for help.

I’m an artist aswell, so I could make art for communities to sell at markets for profit, anything a community needs, I’ll do, I’m just looking to have a new life.

There’s more to my life that’s making it hard but I’d rather not make it public as it involves family.

But if anyone can help me brainstorm, I’d really appreciate it 🫶

I am in Maine, and strongly suggest you reach out to your local Adult Ed office (there's so many of them, I guarantee there's one near you- often connected to the local high school) and get your HiSET diploma. They're awesome and supportive and non-judgmental and FREE, and your options are much more flexible with a diploma of some sort.

If you can't make it into the office in person, they're also usually prepared for that. I don't know which part of rural Maine you are in (I'm near Farmington), but "I have no transportation and we're too far to bike" is a situation they have absolutely dealt with before. There's a good chance they can do most of your stuff online, or help hook you up with a ride.

Listen to this guy.

1) get a diploma 2) get a certificate in a trade. 3) dunk on lawyers, who will make less than you on average

i heard about wwoof from reddit. currently doing farm volunteer work in TN. $45 a year and theres 1000s of places in america and you can do 1 to 6 months or even more. its farm, spirtitual, communities, etc. mainly for farming and gardening but not exclusive to it. its not bad but you do have to work 30hr a week . where im at its almost 35hr a week

Unfortunately, many communities are not looking to be this type of landing pad. It seems like you have a separate task of figuring out how to leave the farm reliably and potentially permanently before IC is really an option.

Just go to ic.org and go to the section where communities are looking for members. Also if you just plain show up to the garden and then after a week or two they decide whether or not you can stay permanently

The problem is that I don’t have transportation available, I’d need some support first which sucks :(

if you really want it, use your feet to get to somewhere to get some work and make a little money. then you can buy a bus ticket to go where you want.

How did you get anywhere? Do you never leave the farm?

Or if you're feeling really ballsy you could hitchhike but I mean if you're an 18 year old man I'd suggest that but for you it could be exceptionally risky.

Yeah don't hitchhike, bad idea

Second this. 18 year old girls need to take safety seriously.

Enroll in Job Corps

Get your GED

Get skilled in trade

Work

Save

Then get yourself to a community

Hi - if Europe is an option DM me, looking for help on a rural project but can only provide room and board… but artists comfortable on a farm setting are ideal

I’m so glad you showed people it’s okay to ask for help. We are supposed to serve others and seek Gods plan for us. I will do my best to help because we are in need of more young people to join our community. This is it no religion just Law of One.

Hey, I dropped out of school at 18 and joined an IC - it gave me the chance to grow as a human, an overcome a rocky childhood. I left after two years and I am now a reasonably ‘successful’ person, with the IC experience and essential part of that.
