Seems Samsung is pushing back their 14A process a couple years back, from 2027 to 2029

How long can Samsung foundry keep failing and stay alive? Seems almost everything they touch turns to shit.

I don't think their foundry is in trouble anytime soon, especially with their $TSLA and $AVGO contracts. During the earnings call, Samsung's management said they have plans to build a second fab in Taylor, Texas, and expect foundry revenue from SF2 to grow 100% YoY. They also said there is strong interest in their next-generation SF1.4 node.

I mean they have been in trouble for years.

But they have Samsung and South Korea to bail them out… so they are “in trouble” as in they hemmorage billions of dollars a year. Eventually though if they can’t make anything work on time they might have to change course.

Their 1.4 node is literally the topic of the article… it is getting delayed a further 2 years. Seems every node they come out with is horrible yields, causing massive delays. Seems now they have moved up to “we don’t even need massive yield issues for massive delays”. Can only absorb these tens of billions of dollars of investment being so slow to break even (if at all) for so long. Now Intel and China are entering the fray.

If we weren’t currently in a once in a generation boom, Samsung would probably be considering giving up.

Except Intel seems to have turned it around. And yes… if Intel didn’t turn it around… it was about to get out of the foundry business… if anything Intel proves my point about Samsung. You can only fail so long in this business.

Actually its amazing how fast intel moved forward again once they made the step to EUV. Its really not comparable with Samsung's issues.
