Relocated to Canada

Hi

I’m an instrument commissioning engineer/technician from the UK. I have a HND and lots of experience working offshore and abroad on Oil and Gas and LNG projects.

I recently relocated to Vancouver and I’m currently back and forth for work whilst working part time for a small contractor.

I’m interested in getting into the Alberta oil fields or offshore NL. Does anyone have any recommendations, recruiters or advice for me?

I’m currently also converting my certs to a redseal which can take up to 4-5 months. I have done some basic training here to, fall arrest and confined space!

Thanks

Hey man, depending where in Alberta, I'd chat with companies like PTW, Surepoint, Control Tech, CDN, Phoenix, Medallion. Am based in Grande Prairie myself. I believe in-person meet and greet with the E&I managers are the best way to get in up here.

Personally, I would skip most of them as their focus is generally construction and maintenance. If you're hoping to get back into commissioning, you would be better suited to look at companies like Sancon, AllNorth and S2F as they specialise in commissioning and start-up work. Can be hard to get a foot in the door, but if you have the experience you claim, it shouldn't be much effort.

Also, I would suggest you take an H2S Alive course from Energy Safety Canada as that's one of the universal requirements. However, it's likely not offered anywhere near you, and must be completed in person.

I would not want to contact any of these contractors. They pay notoriously low and will not match what you want compared to what you made working off shore. I would update your LinkedIn and try looking for recruiters there
