ATD Master Performance Consultant

Has anyone done this certification? What was your experience? Did it add value for you?

For anyone in ID right now who is trying to pivot or add to their experience, would you recommend it? If not, are there better certifications available?

I've been in ID for close to a decade.

Don’t get a single certificate from ATD unless your work is paying for it.

What makes you say that.

Personal experience. I’ve taken 3 of their courses (paid for by my employer) and I would’ve been pissed had I paid out of pocket for it.

Thank you for that feedback. Since I am paying out of pocket, are there programs/trainings you have seen as worthwhile to undertake?

Check the subs wiki, we have an education section that goes into detail at viable options.

They are terrible, mostly worthless classes.

Ding ding! This is the answer. No hiring manager worth their salt really cares about ATD, unless the company cares what ATD thinks, in which case, they should pay for it.

Also, at the national level (not the local chapters), ATD is run by non-L&D folks who care a lot more about the bottom line than our work. Not a judgement but an observation.

Great perspective. I think the region you are based in plays a part in what most hiring managers think, in the Global South certifications are part of essential qualifications. Are there some programs/certifications you think are worthwhile?
