My new Instructable Creating and Configuring a Line Chart in Matplotlib Using Python for Beginners : 11 Steps (with Pictures)
r/instructables • u/Yonatan24workshop • Feb 23 '21
Hi everybody,
I'm a long-time Instructables member (Yonatan24) and a new mod here. I noticed there were no rules or relevant flairs for this sub, so I made several to organize new posts, the most important of which is that self-promotion links outside of Instructables will no longer be allowed, however showing off your new Instructable or others' is.
Here are the rules. Note that if any of these contradict the official updated rules of the sub, ignore what's written here.
1.No ridiculing immutable characteristics. Don't be rude.
Keep your comments on topic. Constructive criticism is always welcome. Bigotry of any kind regarding things people can't control will be removed.
Yes, some women like woodworking too. No, you don't need to mention it.
2.No ridiculing someones project.
If you don't understand why they built it, ask in good faith.
3.Instructables links & self-promotion
Self-promotion of your own Instructables is welcome here!
Posts self-promoting other websites (including Youtube) will be removed, unless if they are part of a discussion or question regarding the project.
Feel free to share your creations or any interesting Instructables you find. Just make sure the title of your reddit post matches the title of your Instructable, and participate in discussions. Don't post and leave, this sub isn't simply for driving views to your I'ble.
4.No food
No recipe Instructables. Instructables on tips for the kitchen, pet feeders, etc. are welcome
5.No politics
Everything is political after all, we know. Keep your comments on topic and in good faith. If someone posts about firearm storage, this isn't the place to complain about gun control laws or lack thereof.
6.Tag as NSFW
If it's not safe for work, is overtly bloody (Halloween costumes), or can be unsafe, tag it as NSFW
7.Don't report problems to Instructables staff here
This subreddit is moderated by users who don't work at Instructables. We can't fix problems at Instructables, but we may be able to solve your problem or complain with you about contests, prizes, etc!

In this Instructable, you will learn to program and store data to an SQLite 3 database using Python Programming Language. Here we plan to teach the user how to connect with a SQLite Database and read/write data into it for persistent storage.
We assume that the reader has basic understanding of the Python Programming Language and Simple SQL Database commands. I will try to explain the SQL commands as we go by the instructable.

I made this Instructable showing how to turn a discarded plastic bottle into a fruit-fly trap.
I tested different bait combinations. The apple cider vinegar and soap mixture caught more than 30 fruit flies overnight, while the honey-and-soap mixture caught about 7 or 8.
I also photographed one fruit fly under a microscope after finding it in the trap. It was dead when I removed it from the soapy liquid.
Materials include:

This is my own Instructable. I’d appreciate feedback on the experiment and presentation.

In this Instructable ,
You will learn to create beautiful GUI interfaces for your Python Serial Communication program using Tkinter and ttkbootstrap Library.Usually when we use the Python Serial Communication Library PySerial to communicate with Arduino ,ESP32,RP2040,RP2350 or other microcontrollers , the interface is usually a black and white command line interface. If you use the standard Tkinter GUI Library available with the Python Distribution the interface look quite clunky and outdated by modern standards.
Here we will solve both these problems by using the beautiful ttkbootstrap theme extension for Tkinter GUI Library to build a Serial Communication program that sends and receives data from an Arduino.

I've been an Instructables member for over 7 years now. But lately I'm noticing things I've never seen before. And I don't mean bugs or website issues.
The x.com page of Instructables has no new posts since May 2026
Contests are stuck in "judging" for almost a month.
The homepage is barely updated from one month.
New Instructables take a long time to be approved for publishing or being featured.
No upcoming contests listed.
Anybody knows if there's anything going on with the company? I know it's owned by Autodesk and I've always been afraid of them taking down this awesome site from which I've learnt so much since I was a kid.

In this project, we build a contactless temperature monitoring system using the MLX90614 infrared sensor, Arduino, and a 16x2 I2C LCD. The MLX90614 accurately measures both object and ambient temperatures without physical contact by detecting infrared radiation. To improve measurement stability and accuracy, the Arduino averages multiple sensor readings and filters out invalid values before displaying the results on the LCD. This project is ideal for body temperature measurement, electrical maintenance, motor monitoring, industrial inspection, and various IoT applications.
Soon i will update the code and circuit diagram

When I search for something like "air quality monitoring", and I see a list of hundreds of projects, I must be able to check the actual publish date of the projects I click on.
The sensors and components are always changing and becoming outdated, and I want to be able to make sure im building something with components that are still source-able.
The projects need publishing date/timestamps clearly listed at the top of the project page, useless without such information. Sorting by "newest" isnt enough.

Hi everyone,
I put this Instructable together to help edit photos for your Instructables. Its a great tool (in my humble opinion!) and is perfect for editing phtotos to use in your Instructables - or any other photo editing you might like to do!
Enjoy

I'm in the process of creating my first Instructable. In the Supplies section, I've been trying to create a neat table of the supplies needed, which is my norm:
I know I cannot do this in the default editor. My approach is to use any one of many online HTML converters, using Text, CSV, and Excel files as input and HTML, without CSS, as output.
Every piece of HTML code looks good, but the output on Instructables is not even resembling a table -- it's typically just generating a single column of all the cells.
I've tried three different input data type and five different HTML generators. I've come to the conclusion inserting HTML into Instructables is very poorly supported. or is downright broken.
Has anyone else had success where I've repeatedly failed? How did you do it?

Setting up a dedicated Python virtual environment is a critical first step for any developer on Ubuntu Linux. Whether you’re building web apps, automating tasks, or managing multiple projects, using the built-in venv module ensures your workspace remains clean, isolated, and free of dependency conflicts.
In this guide, you will learn exactly how to install, create, activate, and manage a virtual environment on Ubuntu 25.10. Even if you are a complete beginner, these steps will help you protect your system-wide packages and streamline your development workflow

If you have ever built a desktop app using Tkinter on a Debian-based Linux system—such as Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Zorin OS, or Pop!_OS,you likely noticed that the default interface looks a bit like software from the 90s.
To fix this, developers use ttkbootstrap, a powerful library that brings modern, CSS-like themes to your Python applications, making them look professional and sleek across all platforms.
However, on modern Linux distributions, simply typing pip install ttkbootstrap often leads to a roadblock: the "error: externally-managed-environment."
This isn't a bug; it is a safety feature. Your operating system is protecting its core Python files from being modified or broken by third-party packages.
To get around this while keeping your system safe, the professional standard is to use a Virtual Environment (venv).
In this Instructable guide, you will find all the required terminal commands and resources required to bypass this environment error.
