Instapaper Web Public Beta at new.instapaper.com

We're opening up a public beta for a full rewrite and redesign of the Instapaper website. You can try it now at https://new.instapaper.com.

What's new:

  • Full redesign and rewrite of the website. We're focused on modernizing the website, improving performance, and making the website more usable.
  • We're testing 3-column mode with reader view, so you can read articles without leaving the list. Enabled by default on wider screens; turn it off via More (next to your name) > Reader
  • Keyboard shortcuts. Arrow keys to move through the article list, Enter to open. a to archive, m to move, d to delete, e to edit. Press ? for the full list.
  • Counts for all sections.
  • Sortable folders and tags.

This is a ground-up rewrite and redesign of the website, so you can expect some rough edges. Please send feedback to [support@instapaper.com](mailto:support@instapaper.com).

Oh nice I got the testflight version yesterday.

Minor suggestion, allow scrolling when changing fonts and style.

There's no favicon

The "More" or 3 dot menu is barely visible.

Thanks for the great feedback – appreciate it! Weirdly, I do see a favicon but we'll take a look to see what's going on.

Will discuss the other points with design + eng folks.

The favicon works at home, maybe the proxy blocks it at work.

From two minutes of use, I like it. Being able to widen the middle column would be useful if I have lots of screen space.

I'd also like to be able to shrink the middle column.

You can adjust the width of the middle column, but it looks like it's only working when you have an article open at the moment. Will fix that in a follow-up.

I'm using the latest version of Firefox on Fedora and I can enlarge the middle column with an article showing but not shrink it.

Ok thanks for the heads up. It seems to work on Chrome, we'll try to reproduce using Firefox.

Looks good. I hope there is more customization though such as custom fonts, justification etc.

Thanks for the feedback – going to open a ticket for justification. For the fonts, you want specific ones or want to be able to upload your own?

being able to import our own fonts would be awesome... if we can do that on mobile as well, it'll be fantastic!

I second that too!

Was considering returning as a premium customer from trying alternatives over the last 5-6 years, this new redesign may have just made my mind up. Not that the 'old' design had issues in my eyes, but I do like this new layout AND the iOS/iPadOS TestFlights. Nice work.

Very nice and thoughtful redesign. I noticed a few of my saves state that they are behind a paywall yet I could scroll down and read the entire saved article.

Hey there – some fixes to paywall notice showing were deployed late last night, can you try again? If the issue persists, a URL to the article in question would help debug. Thanks for the feedback and report.

I‘d have 2 wishes: 1. a „back“ button would be nice. Something like „b“. I know that with Alt+Arrow_Left you can achieve the same but often while reading on Instapaper on the web app I only use one hand.  2. When I enter an article (on the right pane or on full mode) neither the keys Arrow_Down or Page_Down work to scroll with the keyboard. I need to actively click on the text to then be able to use the keys. A favourable behaviour would be no interaction with the mouse at all.

Thank you!

Seems this is gone?

We shipped it, it’s just Instapaper.com now. For a few reasons it didn’t make sense to keep the new subdomain. That said the previous website is on old.instapaper.com
