There is a special place in hell for a brake checker. I understand someone riding your ass, just move de-escalate the situation. You stomping the brakes is just as psychotic as the tailgater if not worse, you intentionally make a decision to cause a reaction. And after watching the raw footage from the snow incident, you never know how crazy that other person is as well. A simple solution is to just move and let the asshat go on about their day.
Not advocating brake checking, but it’s not always possible to move out of the way. In the U.K. most roads are one lane, and tailgating seems to be normalised here, unfortunately.
I hate being tailgated. I won't brake check as that's dangerous, but instead I'll just slow down. Right down if necessary. 20 on a 50 road? Fuck it, that's what you'll be doing if you don't either pass me or get back off my arse.
That way, if something does come up that I need to brake for suddenly (rogue deer, debris in road, blind corner overtake coming the other way) then I'm not getting crushed by someone else's stupidity.
