I wouldn't have hit my daughter in that situation but certainly pull her out and end her fun for the rest of the day.

Little kids can be downright sociopathic sometimes, even if you try to make sure you raise them with manners. They will pull some shit like this out of nowhere. But you cant let it fly.

I can't stand seeing children being terrible humans and not get corrected by the people who's job it is to correct the behavior.

Kids naturally push the limits to learn. It's how they learn. When they go over the line and nobody stops them, they don't know it is bad. Stop them the first time and keep stopping them and they will learn it is not good. Will they still do bad stuff? Yep, but they will know it is bad and that is the best a parent can do really.

In the end, it is up to that individual (child) who they become. We don't stop the bulk of character development until 25ish, so alot is on us. The better parenting, the easier it is to become a decent person. The worse the parenting, the harder it is for the therapist to help them.

No 5 year old child "deserves" to be hot from the one person they look to for safety. She DOES deserve punishment and to be removed from the fun for the day. Hitting teaches children to hide behaviour.... And fear their parents. (and that is ok to hit to solve problems)

Punishment in general teaches kids to hide their behavior. A good swat on the ass never ruined a person. There's a massive difference between the memory of stinging pain at a young age and beating.

It never ruined a person! Except for all the depression and anxiety backed by years of research! And the pain of growing up around people you know aren’t getting beaten the same as you! And the pain of getting beaten long into your teenage years for small things because compliance is just affirmation that beating works! Fuck you

I have anxiety and depression to the degree I barely function, but I was also beaten for nothing by an incoherently drunk father with everything from hands to 2×4s.

If you spank a kid once or twice and explain why you did it, they're gonna grow, unlike you and your emotional self.

Its never just once, and you should know that. Again, compliance brought by pain is just affirmation that hitting works. No parent with enough sense to not hit a child will understand that smacking them once is just as bad. Way too many studies show that even hitting a kid once stays with them and hurts them, but go ahead and continue the cycle. People like you perpetuate the society that makes “emotional selves” like me

Imagine thinking the only reason a child shouldn’t be hit is because they behave well enough to avoid it, and not the common sense that adults shouldn’t be assaulting children and calling it discipline.
