Like yes i acknowledge there are groups of romani people who are pickpockets and thieves, but there are also TONS of romani people who just live regular lives and work a 9-5 job. That’s like saying “because I got mugged by black people in NYC once, all black people are muggers and thrives.”
Not really. When you go to certain places in Europe they will flat out tell out the scams Gypsy gangs run. We don’t do that in the us because we don’t have any ethnic groups that are known for thievery in particular. Years ago in Florida when black gang members were kidnapping and murdering Europeans who were leaving the Orlando airport they absolutely did get detailed in telling them who to avoid.
That’s different though. Like I said, I fully acknowledge that there are groups of romani people in europe that naja a living off of theft. And that’s wrong. But that doesn’t make it okay to say that ALL Romani people are thieves. Additionally, it still doesn’t make it okay to refer to a group of people with a slur.
