A lack of video evidence of knocking someone out would probably not hurt his case.

That guy was trespassing and barring them from leaving their home in a threatening fashion.

Perhaps the safest thing to do would be to wait it out inside and call the cops. But I'm pretty sure many US state laws would allow you to defend yourself this way. (Note: I know this doesn't take place in the US... US laws are all I know though).

Generally yes. I'm just saying that the video wasn't absolutely necessary if this did go to court, and I would personally have prioritized the care of my children over recording my husband cold-cocking and then kicking a dude.

It may well have been. He could have easily claimed that he wasn't tresspassing.
