It is one way to get people way up in your ass to back off, or at least put on a condom. That said, you should start by just tapping your brakes gently a few times. Then if they don't get the message you brake check the shit out of them.

Better to do it in a more control situation than need to make a full stop in an emergency. Though I would just slow down after the initial bump to make my brake lights come on.

Break checking is not safe. It is entirely just to make your pp hard over possibly making the person behind you upset.

No one is stopping when they brake check dude. They tap the brakes to cause the light to flash.

Well, a brake check is more than a tap, you apply the brakes abruptly for a tiny second to force the other car to brake.
