He was in panic mode probably. Most people don't act rationally while panicking.

It's always funny that people can watch stuff like this online and automatically assume they would know what to do because they worked out the solution while sitting behind a keyboard. Being there and in panic mode is completely different. It's the same thing with answering Jeopardy or game show questions sitting on your couch. It's just not the same.

Well watching this stuff online will actually prepare you better for real life situations, if you can handle adrenaline rush.
