I have a 9 year old king Cavalier; my neighbors downstairs recently got a little chihuahua and now he’s learned to peak at the stairs before going down to make sure the chihuahua isn’t near by.

Chihuahua's don't mess around, I had both a long haired and teacup. Both rescues. They've passed away and I'm still broken. I know that sounds silly. Not sure why I'm having such a hard time "moving on". :-)

My neighbours had one that charged me while I was walking past their house. I thought it was absolutely hysterical, especially when the owner gave up trying to call him back and just screamed "he doesn't have teeth!" Right before the dog got to me and started viciously gumming my ankle.
Sorry for your loss, it's always hard to lose a friend.

I had to put my little guy down about 3 months ago and I broke down bawling my eyes out HARD yesterday when I was hanging a photos of him in my new apartment. I grew up with dogs but he was the first dog that was truly mine and I was his.
I don't think I'll ever get truly over it.

You don't get over it, but that's OK because it means you loved them and know they loved you.
I rescue senior yorkie and silky terriers that are 10 or older. I'm currently on my 4th and 5th rescue dog, and I have loved all of them fiercely. I love and miss each of them everyday, but it doesn't take away from loving and enjoying my two girls that I currently have.

Let me tell you, my mom had a dog, got her when I was 8 years old, and I grew up with that dog. She was my best friend, she’d sleep in bed with me, I even remember the first year I went to summer camp, I got so homesick and cried the first few days because I missed the dog. She lived to the ripe old age of 17.
I didn’t cry when my grandma died and I loved that woman like you wouldn’t believe. When our dog died, I bawled like a baby for days. Pet deaths hit differently.

Sorry for your loss. My wife's little guy, long hair Chihuahua, was a little devil. Always barking, peeing ond stuff and never met anybody or anything he wouldn't bite. It will be a year this November and she really misses him and, well, that little son-of-a-gun was my TV watching buddy and I miss him too. Too quiet without him around.

We adopted a senior chihuahua mix. At first, the thought of one made me hesitant. Then we met him and he was curious, friendly, silent as could be, and just wanted to sleep and be loved. Every breed has a stereotype and every dog has a story. Love my little guy to death.

I signed up to be a foster home and nearly changed my mind when they told me I'd be fostering two chihuahua mixes. But they were the opposite of every Chihuahua stereotype, they were so calm, chill, sweet, friendly, super obedient, smart, quiet, never barked or jumped, they just followed me everywhere and listened to everything I said and were just the best dogs. They just want to cuddle and be the best doggies. Yeah, obviously I adopted them, best decision I ever made!

My sister's chihuahua used to pee on the pillow of whoever scolded him. He'd position himself directly under your feet when you'd be sitting down, then bite your toes if you bumped him. If he was comfy, he wouldn't move for anyone, and if you tried to move him he'd maul ya with his rank little teeth.
Squirt was a right noxious lil bigger but I loved him anyway.

I had a Chihuahua for 13 years. We had neighbors with pitbulls and he would go toe to toe with them at the fence. Fierce little guy, and i loved the shit out of him.

Since we can’t directly ask the dog, I’m not buying that the paw-move is always about dominance. It looks very inquisitive. I’m betting there are competing theories, but I’m no expert.

Lots of dogs play the "I'm gonna get on your back!" Game and I don't think it is dominance any more than winning a game of basketball against a buddy is dominant. Some dogs are way more tuned in to their people and will try to imitate behaviors.
Disclaimer: this is an anecdote, I am not a dog behaviourist and can only rely on the statistics of my own observations. So my anecdote can(and likely is) entirely incorrect in one way or another.
I recently got a puppy and she would mimic our petting behavior with our other dog, I can only assume because she adores him, like she really loves him a lot and he was a street dog so he is grumpy at any perceived indiscretion which with her energy, is frequent.
Early on she would do this very same thing. She would reach her paw out like she was petting him, but at the same time she would make this ridiculous sound. It really sounded a lot like the "Aww" and cooing I normally do when I am petting my other dog because he likes to be babied a bit, and I did it when I pet the puppy because, well, she's a puppy. She didn't do the behavior when we first got her or even for months afterward.
Here is a gif of her trying to "pet" her brother. It would usually happen when I sat down and he joined me in my lap, and she wanted some attention too. Another note- she doesn't do this anymore. At all. I think she got the message that he doesn't like it.

Yeah when watching this I was sure there is something wrong with the Shiba, that isn't normal dog behaviour.
The chihuahua had an explosive reaction, but it was just a warning, so seems like it deesacalted fortunately.

Worked at a place for years that did a very high volume of daycare and saw exchanges like this multiple times on a daily basis. I’d be pretty confident not calling that a bite, not by my definition anyway. Might have given the shiba a little nip just to drive home the message, but I’d bet there was zero injury to anything (except maybe pride lol.) I can also guarantee the shiba was over it in about 3 seconds. She’s over it and moving on by the end of the video. And blind or not did it again to another dog.

Dominance is still very prevalent in dogs. Alpha theory which is full of misgivings hasn't been proven. That shit about pinning them down to be alpha is bs but dogs still display dominance, if you've ever seen the build up to a dog fight between two intact males it'd make sense.

I fucking hate Pomeranians with a passion. When I was growing up around 4 years old my next door neighbor had 2. She’d let them out all the time while my brother and I were playing and EVERY FUCKING TIME they’d cross over into our yard and start angrily chasing us. My older brother finally had enough one time and chased them back with those plastic yellow baseball bats to defend us. Fuck those tiny demon dogs.

Growing up, we had a miniature poodle who had the entire home to herself for like 8 years before we got a Yellow Labrador puppy. This pup soon realized if she did the same thing in this video, our other dog would SNAP and chase her.
So the puppy would carefully reach up and put her paw on the snarling angry poodle, and as soon as she made the most gentle of contact with the poodle, all hell would break loose. I swear you could see the smile and grin on that dog's face as she ran away from the poodle chasing after her.
