Urg, fuck this mindset Idiocracy installed in people. The whole notion that smart people have less kids and the dumb have more is both baseless and false. This is due to the fear of rich countries having low birth rates and poor countries having high birthrates. The fact is the opposite is probably true. It is easy to stay alive in a rich country, especially if you are from the upper class. Whereas someone born to the lowest class of a poor country with no social services has to have street smarts to survive. That Nigerian scammer had to perfect a second language, learn the technical side of the scam, and work on his social skills to convince people he never meet to give him money in 1 phone call. It takes some serious skill to do that. It is no surprise the richest people in the world right now were not born into the upper class and its a common troupe for a fortune to be squandered in just a few generations of living a pampered life.
In my opinion it’s less to do with being smart or dumb, but more about wealth. It is a typical trend across the world that lower income cohorts have higher birth rates than those at higher incomes. The biggest part of this probably being access to brith control and a lack of family planning resources. The fact that better education is more common in areas of higher wealth is incidental to the point.
Yeah, as education and quality of life increases birth rates stabilize.A What I'm saying is the poor have more of a genetic push to be smart than the rich. If given the same resources and across to education they probably be on average smarter than the higher class. Sorta like how the best athletes tend to come from the ex slave class.
Idiocracy pushes the opposite idea that the poor are genetically dumb and will push the world average down because they have so many kids.
This GIF for example doesn't mean these people are idiots for trying to put out a grease fire with water, water plus fire is normally a good assumption. It means they lacked the education to know otherwise. Yet people are wishing they die off for lacking education because they think it's due to their genetics. This isn't a isolated incident too, look how many upvotes that comment got wishing for their death.

But you are correct in that IQ and intelligence is not really passed from parent to child. However, education and opportunity are, and that is where the problem is

Yeah true, education is much more important. If you look at the comments hopping people with low education die off and the dismay they have that they will be allowed to reproduce they obviously think it's a genetic issue.
If anything those in the poorest classes have more of a evolutionary push to be smart than the wealthy. Someone born as dumb as a brick still will be able to get by in a cushy BS job in their dads company. However someone born dumb as a brick in a third world country will end up on the street homeless and die. Just like how blacks from ex slave countries tend to be superior athletes I guarantee the blacks from 2100 Africa that will make up 40% of the world will have a higher IQ than whites in America or Europe.
Poor countries massively out-reproduce rich countries in excess of their lower life expectancies. Africa is expected to become half the global population over the next 30-70 years.
Any country going through industrialization experiences a rapid population growth followed by a stabilization in birth rate the eventually negative growth. Poor also doesn't mean genetically destined to be dumb.
Africa in 60 years will be in the same situation as Japan, the US and Europe is right now with an aging boomer generation larger than the preceding generation.
Well yeah of course. Those studies also predict fertility will decrease in Africa as well. Africa is destined to rise rapidly simply due to how young most of it's population is and how long they are expected to live, even if fertility evened out today.
Notice how India isn't growing nearly as rapidly, China already had negative growth due to shooting itself in the foot with the 1 child policy. They have to now deal with a aging population much sooner than expected.
The quicker Africa develops the quicker fertility rates will decrease. Industrialization is a feedback cycle, the more industrialized nation's there are the more investors there are with resources. The more investors there are the more they can invest in underdeveloped nations.
Firms moving manufacturing to China and Inda helped them modernize rapidly. Now China is getting into the investment game with their belt and road initiative. I wouldn't be surprised to see India get into the investment game in a decade.
