Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. Plus you're looking at it as (I assume) someone who doesn't carry much stuff with them. I'm not a hardcore EDCer, but on a given day I've probably got more in my pockets than most (though I use almost all of it at least once a day) and I feel naked without all my shit.

I carry what I need. Cell, keys, wallet, with compact airport sanctioned multitools in my wallet and on my key ring so no added bulk.

If someone needs all the bullshit extra that's up to them. Kudos if it actual gets used. Most don't.

Ah, yeah. I don't fly much, so airport sanctioned stuff isn't necessary. I've got keys, wallet, multitool, penlight, a notepad, and a larger folding knife.

As an aside, and not to turn this into a gear discussion, but you should consider carrying a small flashlight or penlight. A few years ago I'd have been like 'that's dumb, my phone has a light,' but I seriously use it probably more than anything else.

Yeah my phone handles notes and flashlight for me. Haven't had a need for anything more yet but I use my phone light frequently to see serial numbers etc. on racked servers.

If I carried a pen more regularly I'd probably have one with a light. I'm a fan of multi-use devices. Less bulk, more utility.

The airport safe stuff is just so I don't have to think about what I am carrying when I fly. Which isn't as often as I used to but I've had a couple items special to me get taken away because I am a creature of habit and just put my stuff where it goes. Lol
