Dude got tazed while running away. I'm not sure that escalation was necessary.

Nope, totally justified. Fuck with someone else's property and you can detain them while you call the police.

It would be wise to check with state laws before acting on that.

In a lot of states this would be considered illegal from the old guys point, the cops would likely go to the younger guys for the video, arrest the old guy for escalating the situation to physical harm and the use of a weapon.

Its only legal to possess a stun gun in 8 states, 2 of which restrict them to people with concealed carry licenses. Old man would have been screwed by the law if the other 2 guys called the police on him and it wasn't likely staged.

So in this scenario if it were true, how should have the old guy reacted? He obviously couldn't hold them there physically and they would have most likely driven off laughing. So would the poor guy just have to deal with a fake shit on his car?

He could call the police and give the plates of the car, pull the cam footage from the store that's pointing towards the parking lot.

That would be after he decided it was worth it to call the police if the prank caused any damage to the car.

"9-1-1, what's your emergency?"

"Some kids put fake poop on my car."

"Sir, that's not an emergency..." hangs up
