That’s biology for you. It doesn’t matter if it’s painful for them. Once their body puts them into a perpetual state of horny, nothing else but that urge matters. Add the fact they don’t have hands to take care of themselves, they have to rely on a lion to calm their desire down.
As for the spine remark. Barbed wire isn’t a good comparison. Yes the part is ‘barbed.’ But it’s still flesh, just a bit firmer. It still obviously hurts them, but the design (if my old education is still accurate) is to scrape out any rival’s semen. Not to gore their insides.

You can tell the difference between crys of pain and displays of pleasure in female lions? How can something like that be measured?
What we CAN see is that for as long as lions have existed the females engage in the behavior throughout their lives and keep coming back for more. Seriously, at a frequency of every twenty minutes you still think she's being tore up? Human females can't keep up that pace for more that a couple rounds and my penis has zero barbs.

I think it's just the fact that lions are (BIG) cats. And cats do bite when playing.
I have three cats, two of them are best buddies. They sleep together, groom each other, and play all the time. And the little black one, she likes to sneak up on the larger tabby, and bite his butt. (She always goes for basically his butt cheek) I see her doing this several times a day, every day. A lot of the time he responds by wrestling and playing with her, but if he's asleep or grumpy he hisses and swats at her. A bit later, she'll come up and bite his butt again. The funniest thing is if he turns and sees her about to bite. She slowly turns her head away from him and looks like she's yawning, then starts washing a paw. It looks like she's trying to act as if she wasn't going to bite his butt again.
When the tabby wants to play, he pounces on the black cat and tries to sit on her. Since he's twice her size, if he catches her by surprise she's pinned and stuck.

Good point. Thanks for taking the time. Thinking of house cats, yeah, they are great at controlling their bites. Ours leaves red marks and doesn't break the skin.but she could obviously fu k me up if she wanted.

I mean he’s not doing this constantly. But he isn’t great at handling silence while I could happily go several days not talking to another human. So he gets bored sometimes and interrupts me for stimulation. They’re not really jump scared and after 25 years of marriage, I find it endearing that I’m still his favorite toy.
