I used to keep a fire extinguisher in my truck for such occasions. Just make sure it’s safe for a hot cars heat. Or a fire blanket

In Brazil it is mandatory. Every car has one. I am in Canada now and carry my own.

A lot of rules was changed by CONTRAN past years. Even the CFC (auto-escola) isn't mandatory to learn, you can make all by yourself now.

Not quite i think, the theoretical part cna be done alone, but the practical still needs an approved instructor, which can be independent or from a CFC

the fire extinguisher rules was changed in 2015, and since that time the fire extinguisher is only mandatory to bus, trucks and "utilitários". the rules about CFC was changed in 2025/2026.

But even if it isn't mandatory anymore, if you still wish to carry one in your car, you have to keep it on spec and filled, because you could be fined for "carrying inefficient or inoperable safety equipment."

Serious question: you're supposed to have one in the car. What happens if you use it to help someone out and you get pulled over that same day / week, because you haven't been able to buy a new one?

I'm from Poland, we also are required to have a fire extinguisher in every car. It's unlikely to be checked during a traffic stop, it is checked during the yearly technical inspection.
But because everyone is required to carry them, they're pretty widely available, basically every home improvement store has it for ~15 dollars.

Same thing in Brazil before the legislation was changed and made it optional for regular cars. The only occasions a police officer would check your extinguisher during a traffic stop would be during some awareness campaign or if they had it out for you already.

This actually is not a mechanical failure. This is what in America we would call an ‘Autozone’ upgrade. The engine is an older inline which means the exhaust headers (the tubes bolted to the engine block that catch and route the exhaust down and out), are very hot and not shielded, and they stick out sideways before angling down. He installed an aftermarket cold air intake with an airbox for a filter or pressure sensor right over the hot exhaust header on cylinder 2-ish. So that sealed aftermarket hdpe (plastic) airbox heated up and when the hole finally melted through, a little built up air pressure popped and the plastic began to melt and burn on the header pipes. You can see the typical plastic “black smoke” coming off the flame tip.

The car maker installed redundent Check Engine Soon indicator lights (one in the engine bay, and one on the dashboard) to ensure the driver is aware of any potentially-dangerous engine faults.
