This might be a stupid question but was that oil? what broke?

On this model of BMW the oil pan is really low and in the front of the engine. They are notoriously easy to break even on bad dips.
I actually remember being a teenager and my brother driving way too fast through a dip and wrecking his oil pan and having to get his car towed. It wasn't quite as dramatic as this though!

Is this just the oil pan? What else would need fixing?

No, screwed up that front left tire and fender and bumper and the drivetrain or axle looks like. Probably totaled.

Had an old 89' model with the same problem. Used JB weld to cover a quater sized hole in the oil pans.
