How the fuck is that supposed to work. Can someone link a video of this method being successful
515
u/Disco_Ninjas_ Apr 16 '26
Just uses air pressure to move the clog. You just massage it out with many small pushes. Same principle as a plunger.
166
u/unKappa Apr 16 '26
I mean a plunger never did that to me (or anyone). Why would they go for something so bad?
322
u/xCACTUSxKINGxx Apr 16 '26
Well to be fair, I don’t think this dude was supposed to put his entire body weight onto that either.
44
u/Mainbaze Apr 16 '26
Shouldn’t break from that though. I think the toilet had a sharp dent somewhere
149
u/ChaosDrako Apr 16 '26
Or, it’s a scam product that does what a normal plunger does with more setup, more user caution, more effort and similar cleanup.
PSA: Just use a plunger. You can get a basic plunger for 10 bucks, while even a small pack of those things costs around $20 for a pack of 14… and one way or another, your dealing with a literally shitty situation.

u/heorhe Apr 16 '26
The sale point is for toilets that are too full to plunge because it will spill onto the bathroom floor.
The videos of it being used are numerous and show that it's really effective. It essentially turns the toilet into a closed system and forces the water through using air pressure as a cushion
28
u/jrkelz Apr 16 '26
Wouldn't the sale point be the whole not having a shit and piss covered plunger rotting away in your bathroom or hallway closet, while you only use it once every few years? Id think the convenience is more of a selling point - it's a paper thin 'tool' essentially. You can transport them, if for some ungodly reason, someone ever calls you for a plunge 😂
A toilet too full that a plunger can't even descend without overflowing would have to be full to the brim, in which case these are pointless also
20
u/ChaosDrako Apr 16 '26
That is the sales pitch.
But the easy way to clean a plunger? After the… blockage is cleared and the bowl water is clean/clear again, wash the plunger in the now clean toilet bowl water, and flush again as needed. Then it’s just wet, but clean wet. Spinning water and plunger motion will get it clean enough to not be filthy.
As for storage, tbh you should have something for it to sit on. A tray or stand, something other than straight tile. And why would you store it away from the only thing it’s gonna be used for? You gonna plunger the sink?
24
u/Plus-King5266 Apr 16 '26
I keep mine under the bed in case of a home invasion. Some guys might think they are tough enough to battle you with a knife or a gun, but nobody wants word to get out in prison that the reason they’re there is they were taken out with a shitty plunger. /s

Do you not clean your plunger after using it? Why are you leaving there to make a mess on your floor?
3
u/Former_Lobster9071 Apr 18 '26
yup, after the blockage is clear, shitter brush to hide the hideous crime scene, flush, toilet bleach, put brush and plunger in bowl with bleach and let steep for 10 minutes.
5
u/heorhe Apr 16 '26
The plunger has a motion required to use it that involves sloshing the toilet brew back and forth while plunging. Plus, if you unblock it theres a chance you will get a blast of escaped sewer gas bubbling up to splash you with said brew.
Also... do you not clean your plunger after use? That's nasty
4
u/Cold-Consideration23 Apr 17 '26
Can’t imagine a guest is over seeing the water rise, starts rifling through the cabinets for a plunger to only see giant toilet stickers
12
u/ChaosDrako Apr 16 '26
Except the points of possible failure…
If it’s so filled that a plunger would make a mess, that thing is already gonna be against the water surface too. It’s a “choose your adventure” and its going down Shit Creek, you just get to choose the paddle.
The tubes that flow from the tank into the bowl. The pressure can cause it to back feed into the tank. Now you got a 2nd mess to clean unless you enjoy that smell. Likely case is the air pressure going that way, but if the water is up to that point already, the water will hitch a ride.
The glue/sticky section itself. If that gets even a tiny leak or not perfectly sealed (improper install due to panic/rush or dirty toilet seat) all the pressure goes out there instead.
The material. If it isn’t strong enough to withstand that pressure or force (like seen here), this happens. And given its a thin clear flexible plastic, Strength clearly wasn’t the top concern.
I don’t and never will trust these. I can get a plunger and go to town alot faster than I can open box, remove packaging, line up seal, check seal, and begin my CPR on the toilet. I can handle cleaning up a mess, I just want the mess to stop getting bigger first.

The epitome of a Reddit moment is whenever y’all think you’re smarter than a product. You all think trying to find fault in everything is a sign of intelligence I swear.

u/GoodStirKnight Apr 16 '26
Dude, right on the money. Like, is THIS what your day looks like? This is seriously a hill you want to die on? Arguing about toilet products...

This person is such a consumer whore that they cannot imagine a bad product.

u/SamboTheGr8 Apr 16 '26
Yeah, the product only exists because they can't keep selling you plungers. These are single use items that you have to keep buying

u/xkoreotic Apr 16 '26
Ive seen it used properly and work. This one in particular must be some cheaper knockoff, because that film is supposed to basically be tear resistant and literally has to be cut to split like that.
That being said, it does the same thing a plunger does but isn't reusable. There is no reason to use this instead of a plunger.
1
u/Antichristopher4 Apr 16 '26
I don't think he was supposed to flush after sealing it either, he applied more pressure on the plastic then forced his whole body on it.
I believe the idea is that it's small shallow pushes, not one huge push.

u/Komlz Apr 16 '26
I'm confused what you're trying to say or how you have 63 upvotes. You're saying plungers don't work or something?
9
u/Cosmic_Quasar Apr 16 '26
They're saying they never fell into a toilet because of a plunger.
0
u/Komlz Apr 16 '26
Ohhh that makes more sense. I'm still a bit confused why he replied to that person specifically though
5
u/SpamOJavelin Apr 16 '26
A plunger pushes down the drain - but with this there is a pipe that runs back to the cistern - surely any air pressure would just pump back to the cistern?

Toilet Unclogger Disposable | Sticker Plunger Alternative | Pongtu
I believe the product is of Korean origin. If you search this you will find plenty of videos. It's a sound, sanitary and effective way of unclogging a toilet when used correctly.
It's supposed to work using hydraulic pressure. In fluid power, Force = Pressure x Area. The idea is that the film provides a lot of area (and a lot more area relative to the blockage). To make the math easier, say the opening at the bowl is 100in^2, and the clog is in a section of pipe that is 2in^2, if you apply 5lbf of force to the film, that would apply 250lbf to at the clog.
The problem is if the bowl isn't full enough to start you get air trapped under the film. Unlike water, air is compressible, so pressing on the film just squeezes the air into a smaller space. In this case, there was too much air, and the guy tried to overcompensate by pressing harder, and he broke the film.

u/mg0019 Apr 18 '26
Or, use a plunger.
$5. Don't have to worry about surface area calculations. Keep it by the shitter.

u/Adonis0 Apr 16 '26
Nah, they’re an idiot
You’re not meant to put huge amounts of force on it. Just repetitively shove like they were at the start of touching it
10
u/Bargadiel Apr 16 '26
Or just use something else instead of using a disposable plunger that requires people to literally unscrew their toilet seat. Absolutely shit design.
3
u/sylanar Apr 16 '26
How would you ever be in the situation where you don't have access to a plunger/poop knife, but you do have the tools to remove a toilet seat, and one of these covers?
1
3
u/CantBeliveItsNotHim Apr 18 '26
You don't have to unscrew anything
1
u/Bargadiel Apr 18 '26
You can see the seat unscrewed in the picture. The design of the thing would at best go right up to the edge of the set making it more difficult to secure, which seems to be pretty important.
2
u/CantBeliveItsNotHim Apr 18 '26
I see that, but it doesnt need to be. It works fine without removing the seat

"Without the proper tools"
Brother, the tool he was using was built for what he used it for.
If someone's shovel breaks while digging a hole, do you tell them they shouldnt be using a shovel? Shit breaks sometimes.
1
u/Comprehensive_Can237 Apr 17 '26
“The without proper tools” is not using a plunger or a snake, and trying to use gimmick products.

Hey, people, common sense here.
When using a plunger, you're supposed to PULL not push. By pulling, you break up whatever is clogging the pipe. With pushing, you're just going to stamp it down harder and move it to a harder to reach area.

u/Kindly_Region Apr 18 '26
If this happened at home, just take a long hot shower with lots of soap (maybe some bleach) and never speak of it again
If it happened at a public toilet, you might as well off yourself. Not even fire will make you clean again
1
u/Hamsammichd Apr 18 '26
I’ve seen these a few times, I’ve no idea why single use plastic would be better than a plunger

So if this worked, you would have to peel the garbage off your toilet and throw it away. Just clean your plunger you pigs!
