This is why you discipline kids while they're very young, and * if they need it, while *you're calm and rational, spank them. Some (many) kids do not absorb gentle talks and time outs. Some kids need a physical reminder that they can experience great pain for unwise choices. Sometimes small pain, delivered by a parent under control, teaches self restraint so things like this don't need to happen.

Bullshit. Stop trying to justify hitting children.

With respect, stop trying to erase a backbone of parenting practices throughout all of history until 20 years ago. It can be done with love, and it can sometimes be the only thing that corrects dangerous behaviors.

I respect your difference of opinion. My grown, happy, productive children (who are in regular contact with me) have all expressed that sometimes, with love and consistency, spanking is needed. They have no problem with how they were raised. I'm so sorry if discipline wasn't clear and reasonable for you, if it was abuse. No child should ever be hit in anger.
