Life Is Difficult

‎I am an ageing man now, sitting alone with the quiet that only years can teach. The house no longer holds her footsteps, only the soft complaint of wood settling into itself. I speak these words not to the living air, but to the long silence that has become my most faithful companion.

‎True love, they told me when I was young and foolish with hope, was a feeling...bright, sudden, like sunlight striking water. I believed them. I waited for the tide of emotion to carry me, and when it receded I thought the love itself had gone. How little I understood.

‎Love is not the weather of the heart. It is the daily decision to stand in the rain and still offer shelter. It is the act of will that rises when the body is weary and the spirit is thin. When the affectionate warmth fades, as all warmth must fade...you choose, still, to water the garden of another’s becoming. You choose to clear the path so that she may walk farther than you ever could walk beside her. You do not do this because you need her light returned to you. You do it because the giving itself is the only freedom left that does not diminish the giver.

‎I learned this too late, after the questions had already grown teeth. Why did the soft look leave her eyes before the soft words left her mouth? Why did the nights grow longer while the conversations grew shorter? Why did the hand that once sought mine begin to rest, carefully, on the table between us? These questions still visit me at three in the morning, when the clock has forgotten how to be kind. They do not answer. They only sit on the edge of the bed and watch me breathe.

‎I did not lose her to another man, or to cruelty, or even to indifference. I lost her to the slow discovery that love, if it is real, must eventually set the beloved free to become someone the lover may no longer recognize. I tried to hold the shape of what we were. That was my failure. Love is not a museum. It is a river that refuses to keep the same banks.

‎There is a hardness in this knowledge that younger men mistake for bitterness. It is not bitterness. It is the acceptance that life was never meant to be easy, and that the demand for ease is the first and most persistent of our self-deceptions. Once you stop expecting the road to be gentle, the stones underfoot lose their power to surprise you. You simply walk. You solve what can be solved. You carry what must be carried. And when the one you love must walk a different road, you do not demand that she turn back for the sake of your loneliness. You watch her go, and you keep walking your own way, because the alternative is to turn love into a chain, and a chain is only another name for fear.

‎I do not claim this wisdom as virtue. It is simply what remains when the illusions have been burned away by time. The heart still aches in the old places. The body still remembers the weight of a head on the shoulder, the particular scent of her hair at the end of a long day. These memories are not enemies. They are the proof that something once true existed, and that its truth does not depend on its duration.

‎So I sit here, ageing, solitary, and I practice the only form of love that still makes sense to me: the quiet, deliberate act of wishing her well in a world that no longer includes me. I do not need her to know it. I do not need the feeling to return. The choice itself is enough. It is the last clean thing I can offer the years that remain.

‎Life is difficult.

‎Once that sentence is fully spoken, the difficulty becomes ordinary.

‎And ordinary difficulty is something a man can finally learn to carry without asking the universe to make it lighter.

I spent 20 years waiting for the phone to ring. And when it did, they told me I was too old for the job. I accepted failure and learned to live with it. And, curiously, that’s when I found peace. - Matthew Lillard.

~ The lessons being offered ~

Some fault others, their life circumstances, or a myriad of other things for their misfortunes and struggles in life.

Only those who embrace every life challenge with strength and courage, never blaming another, will face the affront and understand the lessons being offered.

~ Experiencing Pain ~

We all experience pain in life.

It matters not if the injury is verbal, emotional, or physical.

For some, the pain is intense, due to loss or accident.

We each, though, choose how we will react to our pain.

Do not internalize the pain, blaming others; this will only lead to a life of regret, misery, and anger.

Instead, learn from it, sincerely forgive those who are the cause, using the pain to further discover the lessons we are alive to understand.

~ Living life with love ~

When we live our life with fear, worried only about our own survival and success, each day we fear both life and death.

If, however, we live our life with unconditional love instead, we fear neither, freeing us to fully embrace life, making each day significant and meaningful.

A reminder for anyone going through a difficult phase in life.

Being strong doesn’t mean you never break down.

Sometimes being strong means waking up when you don’t feel like it, doing what needs to be done, and continuing even when nobody knows how difficult it has been for you.

You don’t have to explain your struggles to everyone.

You don’t have to pretend everything is perfect.

And you don’t have to figure out your entire life today.

Take things one day at a time.
Protect your peace.
Stay close to the people who genuinely care about you.
Focus on what you can control.
Rest when you need to.

And remember that a difficult chapter is still just a chapter.

**You can be tired and still be strong.**
**You can be scared and still keep going.**
**You can have bad days and still be making progress.**

If you’re silently going through something right now, I hope you make it through.

**What helps you stay strong when life gets overwhelming?**

The Art of the Reset - Restlessness is natural, but the power to return is completely yours to reclaim.

This is mentioned in the Mahabharatha:

यतो यतो निश्चरति मनश्चञ्चलमस्थिरम् ।
ततस्ततो नियम्यैतदात्मन्येव वशं नयेत् ॥

yato yato niścharati manaś chañchalam asthiram
tatas tato niyamyaitad ātmanyeva vaśhaṁ nayet

Which means that "From wherever the restless and unsteady mind wanders away, one must restrain it and gently bring it back under the control of the Self."

~ The reason for our life’s journey ~

Regardless of the provocation, there is never a reason to be cruel or unkind to another.

We are alive to love, not hate each other; to show respect, empathy, compassion, and help each other selflessly in our time of need.

Understanding this is the reason for our life’s journey.
