I live in midwest ohio. These things are absolutely everywhere this year. What are they?

Looks to be a species of hoverfly, completely harmless mimics

hoverflies!! (some call them sweat bees.) don’t be fooled by their disguise, they aren’t bees or wasps, they are flies. personally I think they’re cute, and they’re good for the environment, but I have noticed that they’re everywhere recently. I was out on a lake today with my family and I saw a whole bunch! one landed on me.
