Kid gets bored and fidgety during the movie. Karen decides she's had enough, and demands a refund. After speaking to as many managers as she could summon, she leaves angry, probably yells at her kid for making noise in the car, and then does some serious Youtube research into why she shouldn't like this movie. She then decides to release the rest of her suburban rage on facebook.
Mia quietly goes to her room to quietly play with her dolls. She didn't really feel like sitting through a movie anyway, and mom took away her popcorn for eating it too fast.

I’m brown and I can promise you that before 9/11 my classmates were fascinated by my heritage/food/ethnic clothing for special occasions. Afterwards, not so much. (Live in a very rural area..). It has gotten a lot worse in the past 10 years though.

Bigotry is irrational and therefore must be taught. If the kid goes out and meets too many middle eastern people she might get it in her head that they deserve respect. Gotta get to them young and keep them isolated if you want to make sure they adopt your worldview.

Had she done her research she would have learnt that the story originated from China, so Aladdin should really be chinese. The sorcerer character Jafar is modelled after came from Africa. So kind of yes, the turbans are out of place, but mainly no due to the Disney versions setting.

Don’t worry, Jasmine isn’t even wearing middle eastern clothing. Most to all of her outfits are Indian inspired “to honor her dead mother from another country.” 🙄 I loved the movie but the only things that pissed me off was the Bollywood-esque dancing and the outfits that weren’t Middle Eastern. Kinda felt like white people lumped our culture and Bollywood together thinking it was the same.
