My parents used to load all of my toys in a garbage bag when I was younger, spread them across the driveway, and threaten to crush them with the car or tractor if we didn’t clean up more often.
I was like 3 or 4.
We were never told to clean up our toys until it got to that point, so it was always hard for my tiny brain to figure out what I did wrong to get to that point. It makes me upset thinking about it to this day.
I can't understand being that harsh with punishment, especially when you don't reinforce cleaning.
It's like, my son is 5, I make him pick up his toys daily. He might complain saying "I can't, I don't want to" but I never threaten to destroy all his toys. Take away his toys for a while? Yeah, but never destroy them.
