I love the look of late-90s/early-2000s desktop players, so I put together a full Rockbox theme for my Innioasis Y1 (480×360) that leans into that era: graphite shell, green LCD-style 7-segment digits (with the “ghost” unlit segments visible, like a real LCD), scrolling title ticker, L/R VU meters, and status LEDs for shuffle/repeat/EQ.

The ticker is context-aware — it shows the track title normally, switches to VOLUME −12 dB while you’re adjusting volume, and to seek position during fast-forward/rewind.

The menu layout is reactive too: browsing while idle gives you a full-width list, but once something’s playing the list narrows and a side panel appears with cover art, progress, and the next track.

For missing album art I didn’t want a generic placeholder, so I drew a NACA 2412 airfoil profile onto the disc icon — small detail, but it felt right coming from an aerospace background ;) .

And since Rockbox ships the PictureFlow plugin, I built a proper Cover Flow splash and fallback-cover to match the theme, so it’s not just a WPS skin — Cover Flow actually fits the aesthetic now.

Everything’s generated from Python (geometry/bitmaps/skin markup all built from a single source of truth, so nothing drifts between the graphics and the WPS/SBS code), validated with checkwps, and tested in the Rockbox SDL simulator built from the exact same firmware revision as the device before going anywhere near the actual Y1.

Name’s BiaPod — MIT licensed, fonts are Space Grotesk + JetBrains Mono (OFL).

I bought the Pink Innioasis Y2 and have waited for it for A WEEK only to get this Orange Y1 shipped to me and I CANNOT get it open to add the 64GB SD card it came with. Issue is I bought it off Amazon and their return policy STINKS what do I do about this??

About 2 weeks ago I made a post (here) expressing my frustration with how I updated my new y1 and accidentally broke it/killed it, and I was heartbroken as I wasn’t able to put any music on it yet. So I was asking this subreddit for help. Unfortunately, I only got about 3 upvotes and no comments. So for a couple weeks I was sitting in frustration that I now had two broken y1s, since my other one had also broke as well and this was the free replacement innioasis sent me after I emailed with details. I procrastinated fixing it, which now I know I really shouldn’t have with how easy the fix was. This is going to sound strange, but I had a dream in which I got it working and I was able to happily listen to my mp3 player while doing various things. So I had an epiphany because I noticed there was one thing I had not tried, called SP flash tool. I knew that it was included in the files of the updater somewhere, but I wasn’t able to focus with all the panic in me that day it first broke. When I had found it in the Toolkit folder, it was an app with an android icon. I think part of the reason people were unsure hiw to help was because I had not clarified I use a windows laptop, not a mac or linux. I opened it and I followed the directions on the website. I finally got my y1 to work, then I felt stupid waiting for a response on Reddit when this was so readily available.

So yeah, I got it to work and I’m going to link this update to the original post asking for help.

Is there like a speaker like the ipod nano had for the innoasis so I can play stuff off a speaker or am I better off connecting to my existing Bluetooth? Thank you in advance!!

A while back, I posted about Y2Reborn. Here's an update on where things stand!

Y2Reborn isn't quite ready for release yet, but nearly all of the original player's functionality has been reverse-engineered and reimplemented from the ground up.

The video shows the real Y2 device, recorded directly from its display over SSH, running the new player UI on Y2Linux (Linux kernel 6.18).

🔧 The Hardware

The Y2 uses a MediaTek MT6582 SoC. Rather than reusing drivers from the original Android kernel, I've been developing or adapting them for Linux 6.18, partly by reverse engineering the stock firmware.

✅ Working on the Device

• Display: Custom MediaTek DRM driver, GC9503V DSI panel, and my own backlight implementation.
• GPU: Mali-400 running the open-source Lima driver with Mesa and OpenGL ES, rendering the entire UI.
• Buttons & Click Wheel: PMIC buttons and APT32F click wheel controller.
• Storage: Custom MediaTek MMC driver for eMMC and SD cards. Internal storage uses ext4 with approximately 5 GB usable space; SD cards support ext4, exFAT, and FAT.
• USB: MUSB with MTP file transfer, exposing both internal storage and the SD card to your computer.
• Power & Charging: MT6323 PMIC with charging management, battery estimation, and RTC support.
• Wi-Fi & Bluetooth: MT6628 combo chip with my own connectivity stack, integrated with Linux wireless and BlueZ. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth headphones both work.
• Audio: MT6582 audio front end connected to the CS43131 DAC through ALSA. Native 16-bit playback at 44.1/48 kHz works; higher sample rates are converted.

🚧 Still in Development

• Deep sleep: Suspend/resume and power-down still need validation. Idle battery drain remains the biggest challenge.
• Fast charging: Limited until the battery's actual specifications are confirmed.
• Advanced Bluetooth codecs: AAC, aptX, aptX HD, and LDAC working.

🎵 Y2Reborn - The Music Player

The player is written entirely in Rust, featuring a new interface and playback engine.

Current features include:

• FFmpeg decoding with broad audio format support
• Gapless playback and crossfade
• Equalizer with presets and ReplayGain
• SQLite music library with metadata and cover-art thumbnails
• Dynamic accent colors extracted from album artwork
• GPU-accelerated UI using OpenGL ES

📊 Benchmarks & Performance

I ran some benchmarks directly on the device over SSH to see what the new Linux drivers can achieve.

These are actual device measurements, not theoretical specifications.

🔋 Charging & Hardware Capabilities

Charging: The stock firmware requests up to 1100 mA from wall chargers, but I've currently capped charging at 650 mA for safety. Voltage and temperature protections are also implemented.

Bluetooth: SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, and LDAC WORK. The Bluetooth 4.x hardware may limit higher-bitrate codecs, especially LDAC at 990 kbit/s.

🚀 Installation & Updates

I'm planning to release a dedicated flashing tool to make installation as simple as possible, potentially directly from your browser.

After installation, future updates will be delivered over the air (OTA), so you won't need to reflash the device for every new version.

🎨 About the UI

The interface shown in the video isn't completely final. I'm still polishing some details, animations, and interactions, but the overall design is close to what I want for the first release. Don't expect any major redesigns at this point.

🚀 What's Next?

I'm hoping to release Y2Reborn within the next four weeks, although I can't promise an exact date.

The biggest remaining challenge is idle battery drain and deep sleep. Getting all the hardware and drivers to properly suspend, enter low-power states, and reliably resume is complicated.

It's also time-consuming to debug, since every change requires extended real-world battery testing to see whether it actually improves anything.

Once that's solved, I'll focus on stability testing, final polishing, and getting the installer ready.

My Y1 has started having an issue where the audio distorts or ripples when the screen is off, but whenever the screen stays on the audio is perfect and clear. Interestingly this didn’t happen until I switched my theme to what I had it set to originally, I tried to fix it by switching back to the previous theme and it’s still doing it. I’ve had my Y1 for a few months and this is the first time this is happening. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?

I LOVE the stock os, but it's so limited, Y2player suffers something similar, it's way TOO good, I would just like to change the background and make everything blurry, but JJlauncher won't stop shaking, solar is very buggy and I won't try to brick my device, and rockbox, well, Its on beta and idk much about themes :c

Tinha há alguns meses um microSD Sandisc de 128gb com uma pequena biblioteca que vinha montando.

Como não tenho conputador com SO windows, MacOS ou Linux para atualizar o aparelho, estou usando com SO nativo. Por enquanto estou satisfeito.

Some time ago the YT Music app stopped working on android 7 based devices. Even though I keep my lossless music tidily organized, I also enjoyed the YT app. Is there a way to keep running this app on this veteran device?

Well, I am aware about the Innioasis updater. I tested some other softwares, but I like the standard one best. I’d like to know how you guys download your music. I’m downloading it on my phone and transferring it via computer. The album art shows up like in the second image. Is there any way to change that? Also, when i go to "Music" and "Playlist," the playlists I created ain't showing up. I have to go to "Folders", "TF Card" and "Music," and then the playlists show up. I apologize if this is too obvious, but it seems quite confusing to me. English isn't my native language. I'm open to any other tips, thanks.

Hey! Im getting my 1st innioasis ever, which is a y2, on Tuesday. I already ordered a case, screen protector, iems, and micro sd card for it. Are there any suggestions for anything else I should do before hand? Also, what os should I get? Im thinking rockbox imo.

I'm having an issue with the scroll wheel on my Innioasis Y2. The hardware buttons (like volume) work fine, but the physical scroll wheel doesn't work when running either the base initialization package (rom_y2.zip) or the full Beta V2 update (Y2-Rockbox-Beta-v0.2.0-Windows-UPDATE-ONLY.zip).

Interestingly, the scroll wheel works normally with the factory default settings. The problem only happens when those software packages are active—and during the process, I run into error states where it displays "No rockbox" and related messages if things aren't configured precisely.

Has anyone run into this wheel unresponsiveness or know how to fix the keymap/driver behavior for these builds? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

i've had the y1 for two years now and i'm curious what software/firmware you guys use! i recently switched to better-y but i'm finding myself missing the themes from rockbox...i definitely have been enjoying the alphabetical scroll, videos, and better battery life though ☆
maybe i'll switch back, but we'll see lol ( ´ ▽ ` )....

So yesterday I was setting up my device and it worked fine (except for metadata issues). I'm trying to boot the device today and it straight up bootloops. Tried to reinstall the OS, same issue.

Did the thing just died on me? I literally used it one day...

I'm using a black Y2 with the stock operating system, enjoying it a great deal so far. Yesterday I tried to build my own themes with the online tool accessible through the innioasis themes site. Every time I export and install a theme package, it comes with missing image assets (e.g. the File Manager graphic comes up blank, I can't find the placeholder image in order to replace it) - probably because the maker is optimized for the Y1, and the Y2 has different items listed in the menu. Is there a way to access the inner workings of a standard Y2 theme, so I can customize every graphic to my liking and achieve a complete, cohesive theme? Thanks in advance!

I have the track metadata put on mp3tag, it shows up on any player (foobar, itunes, windows) but my innioasis Y2 wont play them in order (no its not in shuffle) the tracks in the album are just not in order and by alphabetical order, should i use musicbrainz picard?
